Questions:

What is this? This is a topic with the designated purpose of learning GIMP, or furthering your talents.
Well, what is GIMP? GIMP is a free graphics program (GIMP is sort for The GNU Image Manipulation Program) that is somewhat similar to Photoshop in that it uses layers.
Cool; how do I join? If you'd like to join, just post in this topic and if I don't have a lot students we're all go.
What exactly can I learn here? Well, that's up to. I'll help you out at whatever skill level you're at. I've decided I'm not going to hand out any lessons and assignments (mostly because I'm lazy) unless you prompt me to. AND you get to pick what you want to learn. If I know how to do it, I'll tell you how. If not, I'll search around for what I believe are good and informative tutorials and throw them your way.

I beg of you!!!!!! Sign me up!!! I have GIMPshop and have only been using it for about 2 weeks. I mainly want to learn how to make kickass sigs.

EDIT: I didn't know it was the two most recent things. In that case:

Alright, try that out; it's a rather cool effect. Your mission is to duplicate that piece in color and use transparency in a way you think is creative.

Looks like you followed the tutorial pretty nicely. Now, there still are some problems. One, the render used is not a very good one. It doesn't ask for any flow. Try and find something better and try the tutorial again; also try and add in more variety color-wise.

Umi's got a pretty good tutorial for this stuff (which I suggest for all of you).

Hey Hy can i rejoin your homeroom i need some more advanced styles

I did the music tutorial and got this:

I tried to make this a pretty simple sig.
I'll try the other two tutorials later and/or tomorrow.

Exactly what are C4D's? I know what they stand for, and kind of what they look like, but I would like a bit more of an explanation.

The signature looks great for what you were aiming for. I really don;t have much to complain about, BUT I think that the placement of the silhouette is a bit odd; changing the height should do the trick. Also, a border would do well with this one.

C4Ds are really anything made with Cinema 4 Design (I think that's what I called anyway).

Also, my tutorial on the Rule of Thirds is a reccomendation for all of you (you can find it somewhere in the Graphics School; it's in the tutorial database thread, which is stickied).
