I didn't even see this. Anyway, it was hard to follow in Gimp, so I kind of ran off an did my own thing with it.

I try to do that but if I didn't there would be too much negative space.

Re: Hyrule's Homeroom [GIMP]

Just create a lighting effect or throw a few clipping masks and colors over on that side rather than text. Look at Steve's work it is a perfect example of the technique

Re: Hyrule's Homeroom [GIMP]

Pro tip: If you can't do text well, don't. Fill the negative space with nice effects or something, it's look 100x better. Also, never ever use pixel fonts. They are the plague.

Border and clean up the nasty pixelazation, (is that a dissolve layer or what?) besides that I like it, although the light source makes it kind of hard to focus on the focal (perhaps set the beam crossing her to a lower opacity)

Re: Hyrule's Homeroom [GIMP]

Alright fixed what I could i set the light beam layer on a lower occupancy. smudged the pixleation a bit and added a border.

Edit: Hyrule do you have an other assignment for us?

Re: Hyrule's Homeroom [GIMP]

You might want to bring some of the black back into the area where you smudged over the pixelization, that added a lot of interest to the background imo

Thought this was pretty neat. thoughts?

Re: Hyrule's Homeroom [GIMP]

I think It's as good as it's going to get now.

It's interesting I'm really not sure what to make of it. So how did you make this (just a quick overview)?

Re: Hyrule's Homeroom [GIMP]

I opened up a layer and chose the base color, a light blue with the biggest splatter brush I had. Then I opened another layer and threw a few more splatters in the same color with dif. brushes. Came back with a splatter brush on eraser which makes a lot of things fully erased and some transperent. Repeat. New Layer. Darker Blue Splatters where I wanted the focal, eraser step again. Desaturated all layers except dark Blue and original.

Re: Hyrule's Homeroom [GIMP]

Basically a lot of splatters and a desaturation. Interesting I've been meaning to get some use out of my splatter brushes.
