Re: Sugarpoultry's Homeroom
Thank you. Oh! Sugar! I saw your wolf and I want to share a tip with you! ^_^ I love doing hair and fur, and I want to share with you my method of making smooth fur, like my Epona right here: OniLink4.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting (look at her hocks and tail, they're more flattering. :3)
Okay, first you duplicate in a layer whatever you're furring just in case you don't like it. Then go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise and uncheck monochrome, because nothing IRL is completely monotone. Set it to something like 10 or so, or smaller for a smaller piece. Click Okay. Next, you take the smudge tool (or its equivalent) and go to brush presets. Uncheck Shape Dynamics and Scattering, and in Other Dynamics turn the strength jitter to 0. You then set the smudge brush to something like 75-80-or-so percent strength, with the mode set to normal. Now pick a small brush roughy the five times the size of a strand of fur (it can be changed if need be, I often have mine set to 4, 9, or 13, depending on size of the piece). You then 'fingerpaint' in the fur, you'll see that the noise allows you to see each stroke you take, while the shape of the brush makes it act like fur. You are to follow the direction of the fur as you do this or it looks weird. This part takes a while as you paint in each strand - I suggest working from background to foreground, so that the strands on top will cover the roots of the strands on the bottom. Make sure you go over it to double check that no rainbow noise is showing. Now, the outline is bound to look smudgy and fake-y, like this example of my earlier pieces: KlaarIfan1.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting or http://images.wikia.com/swfanon/imag...a_Democles.jpg To fix this, you set the smudge brush to a size of 1 and go around the edges, so that it will look more like individual strands. My best example of this is my Epona image from earlier, though I don't really like the tangly-ness of it. If I can find a better example I'll show you. I just wanted to tell you that. ![]()

Re: Sugarpoultry's Homeroom
Ah, never thought of doing it that way. It seems pretty simple. I might just try that.
Thanks!

Re: Sugarpoultry's Homeroom
Gah, I don't like trying to make things with just brushes... sorry, I know it's not very good... But I tried... (And sorry for being lazy and only just finishing it as well...)

And sorry Dog Dog 123, I haven't even critiqued your piece yet. I just got done with school so hopefully now I can keep up with it. Well, its very plain, in fact, I had a sig using those very brushes a while ago. LOL Anyways, there really isn't anything to critique. Think you can try again? You can use more than one type of brush. Use several and see if you can make something abstract. ![]()

Re: Sugarpoultry's Homeroom
I don't like adding random people on MSN, sorry. I'll check your DA out if you link me to it. And I take it your my student officially now?
Out of curiosity, how did you find out about me? Seems your only point of coming here was to be in my homeroom. Well, you sure do know your stuff. The transparency is awesome, but I wouldn't have it cut through her head. The effects are awesome, can you show/tell me how you did that? Text is meh, at least the font is. Other than all that, it's a decent tag. Lighting is fine, and the outline around Samus actually helps it.

Re: Sugarpoultry's Homeroom
Well, you can start on the second assignment and catch up with the rest whenever you are ready. Once you've finished all the assignments I'll post a new one. No rush though.

Re: Sugarpoultry's Homeroom
Curves and Photofilters are both types of filter layers, found in the same place as the Gradient Map's.
