Hey, guys. My name is musical zombie., and I'm going to be your teacher. I've been using PS for about five or six months, and I use Photoshop 7.0 (screw your guys' fancy-shmancy newer programs - old school is major cool.) Yeh. I live in the States, in Nevada, and I'm fourteen.

I'm going to be teaching you the basics and some more-advanced stuff about Photoshop, whichever version you may have. You will be learning signature making and some other design-related things, such as large works, banners, etc.

Please pm me the following information, as I'd like to know who I am teaching:

Your first assignment is to make me a signature. Any type of signature, any render, any colours, any size...whatever. I want to see how good you are in your program so I can assess which assignments to give to you.

Hyrule -

I like it, and I love the colours. However, it seems a bit choppy, and I don't really know what went into it. Can you please explain what you did to make it so I can give better critique?

Nice, nice. I like the colours, and the black contrasts nicely with the orange. However, the designs in the background (which are nice, by the way) should be a different colour than black; maybe a dark orange, or something like that. The only problem with those designs are that they seem a bit bland. It's got nice depth, though; maybe blur the background VERY SLIGHTLY. ;]

Okay, on the first layer, I put a gradient. And I made the second layer white, set my gradient tool to difference, clicked a couple times on the white, and set it on overlay.

Any pointers?

Well, that seems a bit plain. I suggest experimenting with things; I'm going to write up a tutorial for you, because you're using CS3 now and you had GIMP, so you know what the tools do and such. :3

cool. ha, i did blur the Bg, so slightly in fact that it appears i didnt, heh. But yeah, glad you like it. and i tried to put some other brushes in there to make it more interesting, but it looked horrible so i wen t with simple.

Wow. Love the colours. To me, though, it seems a bit simple, though not plain. I think you could spice it up quite a bit, maybe by throwing in a c4d, or pentooling some stuff. Please explain how you made it. ;]

I actually like it, but I have some beefs with it; firstly, the colours don't match Mario himself. They seem a little bland in comparison to the reds and blues of him. Maybe spruce it up a bit. Secondly, it seems a bit brushed, although that's not necessarily a bad thing. I never really like cinema borders, either. Explain how you made it. :3

All I really did was put on the (resized) render, then take the big version and put it underneath, duplicate it a few times, and move them around to try make it flow. Then blur them a bit. Once that was done, I merged all those together, duplicated, overlay, gaussian blur, then erase the right side a bit. Lacking on creativity, I know.

On a related topic, I downloaded CS2, but I have no blank CDs.

I began by making the layer black, brushed it a bit (xP), did some color balance layers added my render, and added the border. That's basically it.

I want you all to make a 350x120 signature with this render.

-Lighting
-Flow
