Re: Dog Dog 123's Homeroom

It won't let you save as .png? What options does it give you to save it as? Hmm, let's see if the Windows 98 knows what .png is...

Yup, no .png. Save it as .bmp (24-bit Bitmap) instead. So that's one of the little differences between the Paint versions. Again, it's been a long while since I've worked with Paint on my older computer, so I've forgotten some of the things that it does and doesn't do.

Hmm... Let's see what we can point out today. Looking at the border, the line at the bottom is one pixel wider then the other sides of it. Of course, most eyes don't pick up on that instantly, but when zooming in on something it becomes obvious. So the border's alittle bit off.

Also, try to pick colors that don't contrast each other. Sea green border with brown font. Let's go by the color wheel.

^ There you have a basic color wheel, like one you may draw in a basic art class at school. See where sea green and brown are on that wheel? They're on opposite sides. Colors that are across from each other on the color wheel don't usually blend well with each other, and generally don't look all that great when mixed into a signature, or anything for that matter.

Still, it's pretty good for a beginner. It's probably better then most of the stuff I made when I was first clicking buttons in Paint.

So, count pixels when you do borders and start saving stuff as .bmp (the 24-bit one). *sigh* I remember when I first started trying to save stuff on the Windows 98... I had to remake the signature at least 5 times in a row before I figured out what option kept the right colors...

EDIT: Maybe we should start making a "No sad faces" rule in this thread...

Re: Dog Dog 123's Homeroom

OK, so i've got PSP8 now. Do you know anything about it?

*Edit* OK I didn't read all of your post. So you don't know anything about it? Hmm. This is a big problem. It sounds like I can't do very much without Word. So I asked to Lem to let me take Apophysis class and PSP class. I hope you don't mind and aren't mad at me. I can't find a trial or anything. I found Office 07 like I said and it's gonna take 82+ hours. I can't do that.

Um but can I give some advice before I switch classes? I think windy is using the box tool thing at the bottom left of the toolbar. Windy, even though im not the best at it, you should use the straightline tool. And do like DD123 said before and count the pixels.

Re: Dog Dog 123's Homeroom

Alrighty Raine, I'm sure PSP8 is a much better and easier to work with program then Paint is, so if you have that I'm sure that you'll be better off with a different teacher. DD's the PSP teacher, isn't he?

Windy - Your computer is messed up? Welcome to my world. Try posting it again, mkay?

And now that my computer is actually moving at a normal speed I'll get started on typing up about the partial invisibility that paint can do...

New ones:
I touched this with window picture manager thing.

I'm working on a overlayed one, I'm making the checkboard.

EDIT: I don't know why the transparency doesn't work ;_;

Re: Dog Dog 123's Homeroom

Alrighty...
For the WEFA one, do the letters stand for Water, Earth, Fire, and Air? Oh well, let's see what we notice within it.
- Along the letter A there are alot of spots that don't look as if they were cut out very well. Do you see all the little bits of black along the edges? If there are bits and peices of the original background showing then it means that you didn't cut close enough to the letters.
- Green border, red font. Contrasting colors don't match up all that well.
- Behind the F it looks as though there's a person. (My first guess says that it's the avatar) Of course, you can tell that something is there but you can't see what or who it is. Have you considered placing the picture of the person over in the empty space near the text?

For the second one - Hmm... Let's poke Photoshop.

And two or three clicks in Photoshop gets transperancy added simply because white boxes annoy me. I'm liking the planet theme, and the fact that it isn't square makes me think it looks wonderful. One thing I'm noticing though is that the Earth has a few whitish bits around it's edges, but it's not much, so it doesn't make it look too horrible.

Also, for the checkerboard pattern, the easiest way to do it is to draw one diagnol line (use the pixel count in the corner to make the numbers even) and after having drawn one line you copy it, paste a few times, copy that set of lines, paste it a few more times, then copy the new set of lines and paste that a few times. It's a fast and easy way to create patterns. Or draw a few squares of checkerboard and then copy and paste that together in the same way. Either way gets you the same effect.

It's nice to see you trying new ideas and such. Creativity is one of the things that always makes a difference.

Re: Dog Dog 123's Homeroom

Exidid - The checkerboard pattern needs to be really really small.

And to make life easier for you, there's a black and white pattern. At first glance it probably looks mostly grey, but if you zoom in you'll see that it's going back and forth between black and white pixels. Just copy and paste it for now.

Windy - Hmm, maybe ImageShack doesn't like .bmp files. Have you tried using Photobucket instead for uploading?

Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket

It's easy enough to use, and then it'll be easier to figure out what doesn't work right. Wanna try that?

Quote:
EDIT: I don't know why the transparency doesn't work ;_;
What do you mean by that? Paint is incapable of handling real transperancy, that's something that generally requires a second program to actually get right. In Paint the most you can do is fake transperancy, and that doesn't work here because of the four different forum skins.

Alrighty, Exidid, the pattern should be easy enough to copy and paste, and Windy, see if Photobucket is kinder for image uploads.

Windy - No, don't stop now! Making mistakes is part of learning!

Exidid - Good job, it looks like you're starting to understand how to overlay stuff. Try not to overlap images as much though, it makes it look messy.

*needs to edit post, check back in a few minutes*

EDITTING: Windy, that's actually looking quite good. Keep in mind that Exidid is looking at a second tutorial now and checking to see if something I just figured out how to do is actually working and you're still working with the tutorial which only covers bordering and font and simple stuff. I'll get you a link to the overlay tutorial in a minute or two. And the border is uneven again. The bottom edge is on pixel thinner then the rest of the border.

Exidid - It's too busy with too many things in it. The picture of the girl has been completely covered up by other images. With too much going on it's impossible to tell what the signature was really meant to be. The solutions to this are generally to either work with a larger canvas size, make the other images smaller, or pick and choose a few images that you feel would look best with it, rather then putting everything on there. Realize that making stuff in Paint isn't just putting everything together into a signature, but actually thinking on which ways to put it so that it looks as good as it possibly can.

Blah, you two type faster then me...

Re: Dog Dog 123's Homeroom

Just ignore my slowness. Sorry, I wasn't typing as fast as you, and from the looks of it you're able to upload pictures again.

I editted the other post as well.

Erm, keep in mind that I might take my time to post, so anything you figure out while I'm typing you can feel free to ignore.

Overlaying Images/Changing backgrounds with Solid Images (MSP + Word)

^ Click! Take a look at that Windy, it's the tutorial that exidid is working with now, the one about overlaying. Lemme know if it's working for you.
