The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy book

I was reading a guide my friend had for a zelda game along time ago and i just remembered a book that was advertised in it. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...2696547&x=#TOC. What are your opinions on it before i get it?

Re: The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy book

I think it is probably just as informational as a article from the Bombers. I think it would be more worth your time to read the Zelda Theorizing section.

Re: The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy book

The whole idea of that book to me just seems to scream: american propaganda and rantings of a no-lifer. I didn't bother to even see what the book was about because of that. I'm not a huge fan of theorizing. Things have a meaning or they don't what use it is to think about theories on things that exist in games when there is already someone that knows them. Ask the maker of the game or don't bother to rake your head with it.

Well now a overly pessimistic point of view on this matter has been brought fort so it's someone else's responsibility to defend the book. ...And not to comment on my point of view.

Re: The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy book

What do you think they'll talk about? The Triforce as the Lacanian objet petit a? Link as negative exemplar of Kant's ethical principle in the matter of pots? Whether anything is actually produced in Hyrule, and if so, who controls the means of production? There's nothing this guy could say about Zelda that he couldn't say about two dozen other franchises.

Re: The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy book

Coming from someone who's read the book, it's kind of a waste of time, save for a couple chapters.

It's a shame really, cause the Watchmen and Philosophy book was quite spectacular(despite the editor's poor grammar errors), and I was hoping Zelda and Philosophy would be equally as good. Turns out it was not. I was hoping they'd parallel mythology with the world of Hyrule, and I got 40 pages of gamers in a hurry to beat the game.
