Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

Well, yeah, guides take the fun away of the game, but sometimes I'm really stuck or lost without any idea and I need one. I'm sorta new to Zelda, forums this site etc. There was this one time where i was so stuck, so many times, I couldn't play for months. I guess i was "zeldaphobic". Glad thats over.

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

LoZ. Didnt use a guide really. It came with maps so ehh. Plus it was a lot of fun finding all that stuff on your own. In the days before Nintendo Power, one could just ask ones friends.
AoL. See above.

ALttP. No real guide here. My cart had come with this little thingy that said "OPEN ONLY AFTER YOU BEAT THE GAME!!!" and lo, i obeyed. What it was was a little booklet thinger with uber tips on various stuff in the game. I wish i hadnt lost that. (collector's reasons)

LA. Yeah i used a guide here. I got lost alot in that game.

OoT. I didnt use a guide until i hit the water temple. I borrowed one from my friend and i got through that level with the help of the guide. D: Other than that, i didnt use it until after i beat it so i could find all the skulltulas and stuff.

TWW. <_<>_> Yeahhhhh.....i kinda cheated and used a guide for a A LITTLE bit of that one too...(heart peices mainly and also the room puzzle in Ganons Tower.

TP. NO! i can proudly say that the first time through i didnt use a guide! Woo! that was fun! After i beat it though i used the guide for getting all extras. (the Master Sword puzzle was never a big deal for me.)

TMC. Here and there....i think it was only the Water/Ice level i needed it in.

FSA. Yeah on the last half.

Oracle games. ehhh i have one for it (a published one for both games) but i really am not a huge of those so i rarely play them anyway. I did use it for Seasons.

Yeah so i did use guides here and there and for that:

I wear the Cone of Shame.

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

I got stuck at Jabu-Jabu in OoT.
So I stopped playing it for 7 years :O
And then 7 years later I opened a gide, finished Jabu-Jabu, and got the master sword, and saw that Link waited 7 years as well. Kind of an odd coincidence there (:

The only game I've gotten through without a use of guide in OoS. Other ones I get really stuck, look, and then feel stupid because it was a bit obvious.

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

I have been able to play through Zelda title with out using a guide. The first game I did do that with was Ocarina of Time. Followed by Oracle of Seasons and Master Quest.

I hate to be captain obvious here, but don't guides ruin the point of games? e.e

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

LA - and it took me forever to figure out to use the shield on the sea urchins to get the sword XD ...if that gives you any idea how long it took me to beat the game...

it was much more rewarding that way though.

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

I had to use a guide for the TWW triforce quest. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the map that's needed for the ghost ship, and I'm still not sure how one would do so without a guide, unless he simply methodically checked every island.

I also got to the cabana, without first helping Madame Aroma, and would have been screwed without a guide.

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

I'd rather not use a walkthrough or whatever. But as said before in OoT for example I used one to find all the Golden Skultula's. And sometimes I use one for other collectables, but that's about it. As I still prefer playing the game without them and use my own brains. By that way it is far more rewarding.

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

Ocarina of Time - Only used a guide for the Water Temple and the times when i was stuck at acquiring items including Heart Pieces, Skulltula's and stuff like that.

Majoras Mask - Practically the same reasons, except it was for acquiring all the masks instead of the Skulltula's and inside the Great Bay and Stone Tower Temples.

Twilight Princess - Only for the Bugs, Poes and Heart Pieces i cannot find.

A Link to the Past - Yes, most of the game (i was young at the time)

All handheld Zelda games, it was a now and again useage.

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

I've never used help or a walktrough, for any game. Where's the fun in that?

Even if your stuck for days or weeks, the feeling you get when you finally figure it out is amazing. Sometimes facepalming =D

I've beaten everyone without a guide except Majora's Mask. I don't care, some of that game was just impossible to figure out, like the seahorse stuff.

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

I've almost always used a guide. Mainly for help on Temple Bosses and location of pieces of heart and whatnot. Cant say i really use it word for word, just for the small stuff. But yeah, kudos to you if no guide is needed. In TP it seemed that some of the stuff would remain hidden if it werent for the guide. But again, thats just me.

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

Most of the time I only use a guide for the sidequests. I'm the kind of person that just likes to go through the game and beat it, I'm very impatient when it comes to sidequests. Though I used one for OoT, WW, and MM, and that was when I was young, I was kind of stupid back then haha. I'm not getting the guide for Spirit Tracks or Zelda Wii, I'll try doing some extra stuff by myself.

I have used the advice of others or a guide in all but (I believe) TWW and (definitely) PH.

Re: Has anyone played through a Zelda game without a guide?

I have never used a guide for a LOZ game. I hate the things. I beat LOZ, AOL, LTTP, OOT, MM, OOS, OOA, FS, FSA, TWW, MC, TP, and PH without a guide. It was tough for OOT, MM, and TP, but I made it. If anyone has a question, there is about a 70% chance I could answer it.
