Re: Zelda Bosses too short and easy?

I think TP and WW bosses are redicuously easy. It's like hmm....look the boss door. No need to prepare. LEt's go in. Comes out, no damage done. I recently started playing Alttp and I actually die once or twice before I beat the boss. They are much harder. There is a certain way that you have to go to beat them yes, but they are constantly attacking. No matter whether they are being attacked.

And in the more recent games health is so easy to get. In Alttp, im like crap, I'm gonna have to fight the boss with only four hearts because I can't find any. It needs to be hard. In boss rooms there doesn't need to be dozens of pots in there. The boss should send out some monsters, I like that idea. But 75% of the time they shouldn't give you health. So you have to be on your toes so you don't get hurt alot. The games are like: crap, the boss actually hurt me! instead of Oh no! half a heart left!.

Re: Zelda Bosses too short and easy?

I've never really minded the easy difficulty. For me a Zelda boss has always been something to go Man that thing is huge or bad*** or even both. Then you kill it after a few hits.

I always wanted a super sized dark nut with layers of armor that fell off during the fight. Something like in TP but bigger and more armor.

Re: Zelda Bosses too short and easy?

After some brainstorming yesterday I came up with a great back story for the boss and the dark nuts of a fan Zelda story/game I'm working on.

Basic plot is Ganon gets the Triforce and uses it to change the world into his own dark paradise. Link is stripped of his memories and turned into a slave.

The dark nuts will be spirits of Shiekah, which have the appearance of a shadowy ghost, that have been trapped inside cursed armor. As Link battles them their armor is destroyed and eventually their spirit is freed.

For the boss version I would have it be the spirit of a noble or great warrior and have him be the larger version with more armor. I'd also have him use several weapons during the fight like a large sword, ball and chain, and spear.

Also, I thought it would be great if Ganon had a shadowy smoke form which he could use to possess Link and try to either attack Zelda or hurt him in some way(jump into a pit). The player would have to counter him by moving in the opposite direction or something to that effect.

And playing through it once and then doing a 3 heart run the second time through isn't the same, because then you've already learned what you need to know to get through the game.
The problem with that is that I'll have to avoid opening chests with heart containers, which will limit my exploration since it will be my first playthrough, and I won't know what's in what chest.

Well, I guess I could reset the game every time I get a heart container... Is that what you did?

save every three minutes

This works way better in the gameboy games, where you'll start back in the last entrance/exit you went through, and they also had heart pieces, not only containers.

But ****, you don't need all those rupees anyway, most of the chests you open are just useless in the end.

But then there's also the fact that skipping heart containers creates the most artificial and unsatisfying difficulty I've ever seen in games.

Re: Zelda Bosses too short and easy?

I don't think any boss was too short. Sometimes when a boss is too long it is just plain boring.
Take the water temple boss from TP. This is what I consider a slow fight. There's little fighting action, most of the time is waiting. First you have to wait for the eyeball to come out. Later on you have to watch the cut scene when it comes out of it's hole. Then later you have to try to swim to it which can be quite boring if you miss a few times.

The easy factor I will agree with though.

Re: Zelda Bosses too short and easy?

Yeah, TP's bosses are pretty easy, I could take them without breaking a sweat. I had more difficulty beating some of OoT's bosses, and ALTTP 's bosses are absolute nightmares... But it has been a long time since I last played that game, so I don't know how I would do now.

Most of TP's bosses you can beat before the music loops if you have an idea what you're doing.
