Actually if you make that fatal mistake, you cannot go further at all. I don't think it matters if you have the Spinner or have a long way. I'm pretty sure everything will be blocked.

. Next, try the little chest puzzle. There are 5
chests. Try to collect as many rupees as possible. The best
you can do is 80 rupees or four chests. After that, head
outside and open the treasure chest containing the Secret
Seashell.

This one, I missed. Instead of going outside, I went North, back to the room I came from to reset the rock puzzle. Went back into the room and all of the chests were open, including the 1 I couldn't get to. This was on LADX, my goal in that playthrough was to identify everything missable. Could any of you test it out on the original LA?
I'm wondering--is it possible to open all five chests in that room?

I remember when I moved the gears only to find out I didn't had the Boss Key. I had to hit reset because of it.
Aha! I finally have an answer to this. According to a thread where someone was having this same problem on GameFAQs, here's the advice he got: "There should be a Clawshot target that allows you to pass over the gate you rotated and reach the old route." Try that and see if it gets you back to where you need to be.

Yes it is. I always save at that part and quit whenever I screw up so I can retry till I get them all.

@Rew: That depends on where the target is. That room has two old routes.

You need to play a song in front of the top scarecrow when you're a child in order to hear a song at the end.

Exactly, Make sure you have a song before the fight.

Which version are you playing TotG? I can only vouch for the N64 grey cart. I haven't done much with OoT on either GCN disc yet.

Mine's the N64 gray cart, too .

And I think you need to play it again as an adult so that the other scarecrow can be summoned whenever.

^No, that's just for the Scarecrow's Song. The top scarecrow is the one where you can play your own melody (and it's longer than the Scarecrow's Song), and that melody will play at the end credits, NOT the SS.

*Facepalm*

NOW you tell me. Everywhere I've looked has said it was the Scarecrow's Song that is played at the end.

I just tested this out--still doesn't work. =/

I played a song for the Scarecrow on the top row by Lake Hylia, and he repeated it back to me and such. Then I went and beat the game, and still no Scarecrow music of any kind after the ending.

Do you have a 000 death count?

Did you went back as an adult to Bonooru to play the song to him again?

Well, I'm testing it out on my file with a death count, to see if that's a factor.

EDIT: I've now tried on both a death file and a 000 file--no Scarecrow music after the credits on either one. =/

No dice. The upper Scarecrow is gone when you're an adult, and the lower one only acknowledges the actual Scarecrow's Song, not the tune that you play to the upper Scarecrow as a child.

Perhaps it just doesn't play on the Collector's Edition? Maybe it plays exclusively on N64 cartridges?

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

Rew: Yeah, the only time I ever heard the Scarecrow's song at the end of the credits was on the N64 version. I'll try it today on OoT/MQ and the CE to see what's up.

Oh, and:

it no longer counts your saves (and Fairy revives still don’t count either).
ALttP/FS DOES count your Fairy revives.

Strange if they just relegate it to the N64 versions. Oh well.

Now this I know isn't true. I have a 000 file on my GBA version of LttP, and I remember having at least one or two Fairy revives on that file.

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

Hmm...strange. Well, my first run through of ALttP/FS, I remember I died (and was revived by a fairy) when I fought Helmasaur King. That was the only time I died and, when the ending credits rolled, I saw that my death count was at 001. Of course, this happened a long time ago, so my memory might be playing tricks on me.

Does it also say 001 on the file menu as well?

This may be something I look into a little more in-depth later when I get home...

Yeah, and I remember that vividly because I was so upset at that 001 that I quickly started a new file to obtain a 000 ending. XD
