Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

Um, just a question, but since in OoT you can travel through time, isn't it in a way impossible to miss an item for good unless purposely done?

(By the way, I have never missed an item)

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

I've held off on updating the first post because I have recently decided that once I'm done compiling my master list, I'm going to convert that first post entirely into a full-fledged guide on how to obtain all the permanently missable items--and hopefully even get it stickied for posterity so that future generations may see it and be enlightened.

And wow, is that true about Fairy use counting as a death in LttP? I never knew or heard that. I thought that it counted every time you save instead, as if it were a death?

@TGM: Thanks for the heads-up about the Zelda II P-bags. I'll be sure to add that, since I'm putting in a section for the 1-up Dolls.

@Axiomist: I tested the ending on the CE version of OoT, for what that's worth. I've never actually played it on VC before, even though I have it for VC.

@PZ2: Theoretically that's true, which is why it's inexplicable that you can't go back and get that Deku Nut upgrade. It's either a glitch or something the developers put in there intentionally just to throw off completionists like me.

Cool, I'll keep an eye out for it. I'll place the info on the Zeldawiki if you have no intention of doing so.

And LA has one more photo that 'must' be missed. Your first picture you must choose between taking a picture and saying no 5 or so times in a row. There's a picture for both answers so one of them have to be missed. The album will still be complete, but in the same vein of choosing a pet, and Bipin/Blossom's career path, ya miss out on one.

Yes it does that in the ORIGINAL SNES copy of the game (Edit: this probably goes for the VC version too because i guess its just a direct copy of the SNES one)..it doesnt seem to count in the GBA one because ive used fairies due to death in that version and it didnt count...however not to my knowledge does anything happen at the end of any ALttP versions do you get a special scene or whatever if you do get 000 deaths..i have done that before even on the SNES one and nothing special happens...(except the gradification of having 000 under your file)
if there is indeed something there, id love to see proof!

This makes getting optional chests in that dungeon missable.

There's also a chest containing some rupees in the swamp area as well, blocked by another flower.
You can kill them with the boomerang you get from the cave in the beach when you have the lens.

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

Clarification question on LttP:
Is it Fairy revives that the game counts, or is it saves? Or both?

(Also, Axiomist: Feel free to put my guide on Zelda Wiki after I'm done with it. )

EDIT:
After some further investigating of other message boards, it looks pretty clear that only saves are counted in LttP and not Fairy revives (which is why I initially thought). So for the time being, I'm going to say deaths and saves, not Fairy resuscitations.

UPDATE!
I have now went back and edited the original post of this thread so that it is now a definitive, full-scale guide! Hopefully now I can talk one of the mods into getting it stickied for me...

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

Wow...this should be put in the main page of the website or something! It's incredibly great!

Under the rumors of missable items section, you should probably put the Ice Arrow. Unfortunately, many people still believe that if you don't choose the correct path in the Gerudo Training Ground, you won't have enough keys to obtain the Ice Arrow inside the treasure chest.

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

That's a good idea, dany! I can also add that any dungeon requiring Small Keys (like the Water Temple) can never become impossible because there are always enough keys. I may also make a mention about the Deku Stick upgrade, since a lot of people think it becomes unattainable along with the Deku Nut upgrade, even though (strangely) you can still get the Stick upgrade from the Forest Stage at any time, even if not the Nut upgrade.

When you reach the room where you must use the Deku flowers to launch from one island to the next (over a bottomless pit), launch from the first to the second island, and from there launch yourself to the island ahead and a little to your left. There you'll find a treasure chest housing your first stash of Deku Nuts. Note that after you leave this room and arrive at Clock Town, this brief section of the game is cut off from you forever. So get those Deku Nuts while you can. I repeat, do not leave this room until you have opened the treasure chest! Even if you miss this particular chest, you'll still have plenty of chances to find Deku Nuts from other places. Other than that, the beauty of this game is the ability to travel back in time and reclaim anything you've missed, and even open all the treasure chests again that you opened previously.
I'd like to note that , actually, it is not utterly impossible to go back and open this chest.
You can actually get over the big silver door by doing a bombchu hover glitch over it, so if you are extremely desperate to go back, it is possible.
I know it is because I've done it myself.

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

Does the green tunic in LA really have to be counted as a missable item? Because if you're doing a 100% run in LA DX,you would have to lose the green tunic to get either the blue or red tunics, since those are counted towards getting 100%.

Well, lots of things are possible by using glitches or Game Shark or things of that sort. This guide is just based on playing the game straight.

Oh, I agree--but that's why I put it as a minor item of note (like losing the Giant's Knife in OoT or spending Beedle's coupons in WW and PH).

Congrats on the sticky! Not to worry I'm going to write this up to the wiki style and make the page as soon as I get a good bit of spare time.

Back to LA, I'm late in the game, never stole, have the bow and can't seem to steal any of the smaller items. I've even dumped all of my rupees at the Rapids Ride to see if having a full wallet was preventimg me from stealing. Unless I'm doing something wrong, then that picture 'could' be missable after buying the Bow.

LttP, I have a save file with 000 Deaths, I'm going to double check the endings soon. But on GameFAQ Zelda Endings, I read something about multiple endings there possible by changing the lady sweeping in the village to something with the magic powder.

That's strange. What version are you playing, the original or DX? Because on my DX file (I haven't bothered to steal on the original), I'm pretty sure I bought the bow already before I went and stole at the end of the game. It worked for me. I may test it out later today.

Which version of LttP are you playing, GBA or SNES? I was never able to achieve the 000 count in the SNES version because I couldn't ever finish it in a single day and would have to save.

Anyway, that's interesting about the woman in the credits. Probably too minor a thing to include in the guide, but...maybe.

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

I have a few more, I think.

Anyone remember Arbiter's Grounds and that room where you have to spin some gears to get to the boss room, which will spin the walls around you? Well after spinning those gears, two other rooms in that room become unaccessable, most noteable the room with the Piece of Heart and the Boss Key... I remember when I moved the gears only to find out I didn't had the Boss Key. I had to hit reset because of it.

Also, about the secret seashells and L-2 Sword in LA. Not sure if this is already mentioned in your guide, but if you only collect the needed 20 or so seashells for the sword and exchange them, any other seashell that was not obtained in the game will disappear, making it impossible to get all of them after getting the sword. Any seashells that were in chests will also be replaced by 20 rupees.

And it is possible to steal the smaller items in LA.

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

Thanks for the vid GM, For some reason I was trying to dash out with the Pegasus Boots. This isn't the first time I mixed the OoX games up with LA. sorry

I'll be testing LttP on GBA. my file hasn't been counting saves. I checked that by beating Ganon the entire list had 000 on it. I'll get that comparision asap.

I don't think there's one...

Though, I wouldn't know since I don't think I ever died in TP.

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

To my knowledge, there are no death counters in MM, FS, WW, FSA, MC, TP, or PH. Which means there probably won't be one in ST either.

EDIT:
Looking at earlier questions--TGM, are you sure about that Arbiter's Grounds glitch? I wouldn't imagine something as necessary as a Big Key would be missable, which would of course be a game-ending glitch. Seems like there'd be a big outcry over the internet about that, but I've never heard of it. It's probably hidden under some nook or cranny in that room?

And I did cover that part about the Secret Seashells in LA.

Or you could go back around the long way, like when you first got the Spinner.

I have beaten OoT with a zero death count (which I always do) and left the 'the end' screen on for 5~15 minutes a couple times and I have yet to hear the scarecrow song thing.

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

Secret Seashell 22
------------------
Location: Tal Tal Mountain Range
Coordinates: N-2
. Next, try the little chest puzzle. There are 5
chests. Try to collect as many rupees as possible. The best
you can do is 80 rupees or four chests. After that, head
outside and open the treasure chest containing the Secret
Seashell.

This one, I missed. Instead of going outside, I went North, back to the room I came from to reset the rock puzzle. Went back into the room and all of the chests were open, including the 1 I couldn't get to. This was on LADX, my goal in that playthrough was to identify everything missable. Could any of you test it out on the original LA?
