Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

It's possible to miss the Scarecrow Song?

Also there's another thing missable in LA. The game requires that you need Bow-Wow to eat those flowers in the swamp area if you want to get into the Bottle Grotto dungeon. However after beating that dungeon and returning Bow-Wow to Madame MeowMeow, Bow-Wow can no longer be used and the flowers cannot be destroyed. This makes getting optional chests in that dungeon missable.

There's also a chest containing some rupees in the swamp area as well, blocked by another flower.

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

Yeah, the swamp flowers can be destroyed later, as Qnez said.

@Axiomist: Actually, I'm hoping to compile all of these things and submit it as a guide on the main site.

I have to ask, though, how is the Scarecrow's Song missable? o_O

I don't recall any treasure chests, that are only accessible with the rooster except for the one next to Kanalet castle. And I played through both versions of LA dozens of times. I would be really, really surprised, if I have missed this chest somewhere, so please tell me the exact location of that second chest. "I believe there was one" doesn't verify too much.

It's not.

And what Goron Moron says about the Gerudo Arena isn't true either (but I think, she already noticed this ^^). There's a key for every door in both versions of this dungeon and they are always accessible. Some of them are just very well hid (for example the one where you have to climb up the grates in the room with the locked doors through a fake ceiling or the ones hidden in invisible chests, just use the Eye of Truth sometimes), which doesn't mean, you can't complete the dungeon. You can't possibly screw up there, you can't. Doesn't matter in which order you get the keys and which doors you open, there is no way to miss the Ice Arrows permanently. It's like the people who claim, they couldn't finish the Water Temple, because "they used a key on the wrong door", while in reality they just overlooked a well hidden key somewhere.

In my defense, I was just hypothesizing--hence why I said, "I believe such-and-so" instead of "there absolutely is," etc. If you say the Kanalet chest is the only one, you're probably right. I'm going to look into it more later this week.

Don't worry, I wasn't offending. And I can assure you, the Eagle Key and the chest near Kanalet castle are the only items, which require the flying rooster. Like I said, I know Link's Awakening pretty well.

Btw. are you TheRewster over at GameFAQs? Because I googled for "Flying Rooster chest" just to be sure and I stumbled over your "Permanently Missable Items" thread over there.

Yep, I am! I posted a "Permanently Missable" topic in just about every Zelda board on GameFAQs.

Like I said, I'm writing a guide and don't want to leave anything out.

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

Sorry I thought the Scarecrow song only played at the End of OoT with 000Deaths. But LttP certainly has something. It's difficult to do bc if a fairy revives you it still counts as a death :S

So the Scarecrow Song will still play even if someone dies?

I don't think you can. But I guess it's worth a shot for me to try out.

Whoa, holy crap you're right! About OoT and the Scarecrow's Song, that is.

I just tested it out on a file I found that had a few deaths on it (this was the CE). Sure enough, when it got to "The End" screen, no Scarecrow's Song played. (And I double-checked to make sure there was a Scarecrow's Song for that file too.)

Man, I never even knew that!

Good thing I always play death-free. (That file was someone else's.)

Re: Permanently Missable Items - A Guide

I have another for AoL.

There are P-Bags in AoL that give you experience points. But if you die before leveling up, you lose all of your EXP points, and P-Bags in set locations disappear after being picked up. So if you die after using a P-Bag and don't level up with it, then it's kinda like a wasted P-Bag.

Not sure if that counts though.

I have one for TMC. The Kinstone fusions in the library. If you don't get all of them before beating Vaati, then they're impossible to get because after Vaati is finished and you save, the library becomes inaccessible.

Everytime you forward through the game, the game picks temporary people who will want to fuse kinstones by random. And it's not just the folks in the library but everywhere.

There are a handful of kinstone fusers who are permament though.

Haha, oh man... I was so annoyed when I found out that ALttP counted your deaths even if you were revived by a fairy... XD I died only once, but that 001 really bothered me, so I had to beat it again to have a 000 file.

Exact same thing happened to me, 1 death early in the game. I pressed on anyhow, and eventually realized it. I've haven't taken care of that one there yet, but whenever I do, I'll compare the endings to see what's different back to back.

Well Rew hasn't updated the first post concerning the scarecrow song. :S Since I have friends swearing it's true and friends swearing it's not, I'm thinking this could differ by editions. I can say the N64 grey cart for certain does that. My first playthrough, I died so many times at Bongo Bongo it'd shame anyone. A later file, 100% complete and no deaths, I noticed the 'bonus' and compared the two.
