Zelda Chess
Hello All.
I need your help. Im doing a project at school, where we have like half of the term to decide wheat to do (that is progressive). Im thinking of making a Chessboard and have the players as the chess pieces. What Id like is your opinions on what each chesspiece should be from the Zelda world. Of course I won't finish it in that small time period...but I could get started. Here are my thoughts: White Pieces (the good guys) King: King of Hyrule (Well because he already is King....and I forgot his name) Queen: Princess Zelda (She is an important role in the series and is very powerful) Bishop#1: a Zora Bishop#2: a Rito Knight#1: Link (do I really have to explain why? now really?) Knight#2: Shiek (yes, eventhough Zelda is on the board, I think Shiek is perfect for this role) Rook#1: a Goron (lets look at what a Rook and a Goron have in common: their bodies are made of stone/ are rock like creatures and they are big) Rook#2:Great Deku Tree: (he brings in a good touch to the game..he is also big) All Pawns: they would be a mixture of some Cuckoo chickens, Koroks, Kokiri, and fairies Black Pieces (the bad guys) King: Ganondorf (same as Link...do I really have to explain why?) Queen: Twinrova (she's the only powerful woman in the game...thus far) Bishop#1: Vernan( I think she did a diecent enough roll in OoA to be in this game) Bishop#2: General Onox (same as Vernan....but in OoS) Knight#1: Dark Link (he has to be a knight if the real Link is on their side) Knight#2: Phantom Ganon (great minion to Ganon, and same as Dark Link) Rook#1: a Darknut (they are heavily armored like a Rook) Rook#2: the Moblin King (meh, he's just fun to beat) All Pawns: they would be a mixture of some Poes,Deku shrubs, skull kids, and Flamming Keese Please give me your thoughts, suggestions and such.

I like it... It would be better to have all knights etc matching, but obviously there wouldn't be half as many different characters... You missed out Gerudos... perhaps slip them in somewhere as a bishop or something. It's up to you though. Good work.

may be you could just use different races.
and put the all the same type of race for the same type of piece like king: link queen: zelda bishop: zora knight: goron rook: kokiri and ponds could be hylian knights

Oh, Bigoronsword, how can you have a Zelda chessboard without Majoras Mask? He's just as important as most of the bad guys.

That's a cool idea BigGoronSword. Though Darknuts are pretty cool, I think that DarkLink should be a knight for the bad guys, since Link's a knight for the good guys. Though you have a good idea, rejected fairy, I don't really like the idea of Majora's Mask as a piece. Who knows, your idea may be a good one.

Hey, I just stating that if your going to put important bad guys in the Chess board, at least consider Majora. What about Navi? You have to at least include him.

Give Impa the white Royal Horse and give Nabooru Epona or the average brown horse. If you make Link a knight then give him Epona. For the Rooks and Bishops always give them the same poses so that you know what is what. Give the knights the pose of marching with a short spear, since a long spear would be too long and would obstruct the pieces on the board. In other words, nothing longer than the square on the board and still have the pole close to their bodies. Black: King: Ganondorf Queen: Veran Bishop#1: Komue Bishop#2: Kotake Knight#1: Phantom Ganon, for sure. Knight#2: The Gerudo woman who gave Link the membership card. Rook#1: Onyx Rook#2: Iron Knuckle All Pawns: Moblins This ones a little harder to figure out, but split Twinrova up to fill in the chracters. Give the Gerudo woman a brown horse, give her and Phantom Ganon the same pose, and give Phantom Ganon the black Gerudo Steed. Make Onyx gold and the Iron Knuckle blackish silver, with Onyx holding his mace and the Knuckle holding an axe. Give the Moblins the same pose as the knights and also give them their own spears that have jagged edges with red spots on them. Also make all the higher pieces opposites, like Komue holding her broom with her left and her right arm out and Kotake holding her broom with her right and her left arm out. Also have them floating by putting flame and frost under them and have their bases be their symbols seen in the Spirit Temple battle. Do the same with the all the pieces, have them opposites but with the same pose. Also on the bottoms of their bases you should label them as King, Queen, bishop, knight, rook and pawn. You're also forgetting the most important thing in the game. THAT BOARD!!!! I would use a Hyrule Castle/Ganon's tower type board. White squares are gray stone from the castle and black squares are dark gold ones, like the ones in the room where Link fights Ganondorf. Either that or black stone like what is used to make Ganon's tower. On one side have the edge made out of Ganon's tower brick, which would be black. Along the edge have black spikes sticking up. Then in the middle have it change to white stone like Hyrule castle and white brick instead of black spikes. Then on the back edge have green tiles like Hyrule Castle. On one side of the wall have green tiles and the other have black, but then it gets to the middle where the king and queen are have windows like Hyrule Castle and stained glass on the other side like Ganon's Tower. Also, on the playing surface draw a Triforce in the middle of the board in special ink so that when it's put under a black light it lights up. Do the same with each character's space and draw their symbol. Link's: The "Q" Kokiri symbol. Zelda's: The Red Phoenix. The Sages': Their Symbols. The Knights': The symbol that is on the pillar of the castle in OoT. Ganondorf's: The Eyes of Ganon symbol seen at the doorstep of Agahnim's room in LttP's Dark World. Veran's: I think she has one. The witches': The ones they rise out of in the OoT battle. Phantom Ganon's: I guess you would just use a skull. The Gerudo Woman's: The Gerudo Symbol, the one WITH the Crescent Moon and Star mind you. Onyx's: I know he has one. Iron Knuckle's: I guess you'd have to reuse the Crescent Star, or use a symbol that I think is on the armor. Moblins': Hmm, tough one. Just use their faces. *sigh* but maybe I'm just blowing it way out of proportion and thinking too hard. BTW, your ideas weren't that cool. L is real |

I like your original idea for the pieces for the most part. The only thing I would change is to pick one type of character to be pawns on each side. Like with the Lord of the Rings chess board. (I love chess! It makes me think! Hyuck!)

I think it'd be too confusing to use different characters for all the peices. I mean keep Bishops the same, keep Knights the same, don't have 2 different characters on one side for each Bishop, or else you'll be confused as to who is who.
If your making it to be instantly recognisable as a Zelda inspired peice, then keep the lesser known characters out. And to keep it obvious as chess, make the peices resemble the originals more. White King: Would have to be Link (Adult) Queen: Princess Zelda (Adult) Bishops: Old Man (the hooded chaps from the 2D games. Bishops/Sages makes sense) Knights: Epona (does it need a rider? Traditional chess is just a horsehead) Rooks: Hyrule Castle (Would make sense as a castle shaped peice) Pawns: Faires (not Navi esque but instead the ones from the GB games) Black King: Ganondorf Queen: Koume/Kotake (they're both the same in appearence anyway) Bishops: Wizzrobes (WW or classic style) Knights: Lyonel's (from GB games (Keeping horselike)) Rooks: Ganon's Keep or Ganon's Pyramid from LttP (again castle like) Pawns: Octorocks (or some other basic enemy)

I hope everyone knows this project may take months....or even years to accomplish. I love detail in Chess games. Thank you all for your imput so far, keep them coming (especially about the board itself). Just mind you, Im thinking about widdling the chess pieces....just a heads up.Other than that, let your imagination go wild a give me more!

Luigi64's idea for the triforce is good, that would be cool. But can you accomplish that? Well anyways, good luck on the project.
