2008 - the worst Zelda year in the 00's decade?

I noticed that for the 00's decade we have had these releases in North America:
2000: MM
01: OOA, OOS
02: ALTTP/4S
03: WW
04: 4S Adventure
05: TMC
06: TP
07: PH
08: -NOTHING-
09: NOTHING?

Given that Nintendo has a specific team that works on Zelda - "the Zelda team" - would'nt you guys think the next Zelda should be way deep into development by now? I mean TP was released in Nov. '06, and PH was released in June '07 in Japan. So they have had a lot of time working on this new project. Besides, I've read from various sources that they've been working on this title even months before TP was released... even though this is not official I think.
Don't you think we should be expecting some news soon? For the past years, it seems the Zelda teams (the console & the handheld team) have been working pretty fast, given the amount of releases I showed before. And since we haven't heard any news on some "spin-off" like 4 swords or L.CB.T., they must be hard at work at a "major" release...
Wouldn't you think it's about time something would happen?

Do you know how hard it must have been to make 8 games in 8 years?

If they want to make the next Wii Zelda better than TP, or the next DS Zelda batter than PH, they're gonna take their time. Even TP was delayed because it was to be made "better".

It could just mean that they are taking their time making the next one(s) great. Instead of rushing it to post-production. That can only be good. They had long breaks like this in the '90s too.

I'm sure it'll be worth the wait

It would be nice if they gave us a trailer or something soon, but a 2009 or even 2010 release isn't likely. I'm okay with that though because I want them to make a really good game-- better than TP. TP was fine, but they left some stuff out in order to cram it onto the Wii. So for the next one, the longer it takes, the better it will be. (I hope I didn't just jinx the game, yikes!)

Like the others said, I'm sure Nintendo is taking its time to make an excellent game. Though TP and PH were both good games, I hope their focus is to now make a game even more innovative, enticing, and difficult. So if we don't get a game this year, oh well. It just means that next year, or maybe even 2010, we will have an excellent game.

Which just turned out to be a port from the GC to the Wii along with a few minor adjustments.

It's kinda explainable. Flagship's gone, for example, and Nintendo's been working on great games in so many franchises lately...
Also, you could argue that LCT ís a Zelda game, and that means that 2008 did see the release of a Zelda game(LCT came out in Japan this year). The other areas had PH and LCT in the same year, so now it's logical that there hasn't been a Zelda in '08.

But think of the 80's and 90's! Nintendo released Zelda games with pauses of more than a couple of years, and what did it bring us? ALttP! OoT! LA!

So big pauses don't mean no more Zelda games. I think the death of Flagship is the most probable reason why the volume of the franchise is changing.

About '09: I still think there's a chance Nintendo is keeping Zelda Wii a big secret because they don't want all the over-hyping and they don't want the fans to be dissappointed with every delay.

You think that fact that there wasn't a Zelda game released in 2008 would mean that it's the best year for Zelda of the 21st century.

If Zelda Wii is as polished and pretty as Mario Galaxy, it'll be more than worth the wait.

I'm pretty shure that i heard a little while ago (about 1-2 yrs) that while TP was just coming out, a true WII Zelda game was already well into the works.

I fail to understand how a "true Wii Zelda" would be any different from Twilight Princess.

One came out every year from 2001 to 2007. That's pretty good to me, seeing how long it takes to make a blessed game. I wouldn't complain, but rather spend 2008/2009 trying to defeat the games from before. ;D

But that's just me. I'm not the most hardcore Zelda fan in the world.

What i mean by "true" is simply a game that was built head to toe for the wii. TP was originaly in development for Gamecube, and then they started doing the Wii version a little bit later, and then released them both at the same time.

Also, this is in no way, shape or form an insult to TP. I love that game!

Eh, if we remove the decade limit, we just have to look at the 80s and 90s. Zelda's moving upwards in quantity. :|

How would it be any different? I hear all this talk about a "true Wii Zelda" and its supposed greatness yet I fail to understand how it would be any different from Twilight Princess.

Personally, if a Zelda title came out next year or 2010, then it would be a good game. 4 year development on a home console title is pretty good going. If it came out 2 years after the last title, then i think it would feel rushed.

this isnt the first time this has happened, we had to wait 5 years for the next zelda game after links awakening. but wat we got was oot

id say that was definatley worth the wait
