Link's best Guide

Every one seems to think Navi is annoying , why? Is it because she says 'Hello' or 'Listen'? I think she the best guide as she gives a good description of each enemy!

It is because she says "Hey,Listen" every 15 seconds to tell you something ridiculously obvious, as if Link is some sort of mental retard.

not every 15 sec, more 15 min or something, I already beaten the temple before she talks about it

Why? Here's the rational answer:

Because at one time some A.D.H.D. kid was gaming OOT, and he happened to have just completed the first dungeon as a child and was getting quite frustrated because he didn't know what to do next...

Navi:"Link, lets go to the castle!"

A.D.H.D. kid:"OMFG STFU I knOw wh4t tO D0!!!11!!!11

...When the sad part was, he really didn't. So the after giving up he logs on to his computer and goes to a forum he frequently posts in, and having built up some seniority on it, he decides to state his opinion:

A.D.H.D. kid:"OMGOMG |N4vI is so GHEYYYY!!!1!!1"
Noob Posters:"Z0MG, he's r1ght!!1"

And it just escalated from there, and now there seems to be a fanbase dedicated to hating Navi, and it's logical to think that all the members likely all have neurotic disorders that involve sudden noises every 15 minutes.

No actually it's because she IS annoying.

The entire Deku tree seemed to be devoted to insulting the intelligence of the player, and Navi was the medium in which this was done.

Midna definitely. She was a more of an angry character, was helpful, a lot more than most, and was actually a fun guide to have with.

The Deku tree was just pretty much a tutorial, and the whole 'action icon' was a pretty new idea back then so the tutorial that seemed embarrassingly obvious now was really just a good way to introduce the new concept to new players when it came out. I'm pretty sure some people wouldn't have been able to go up the vines or open the door without Navi's help.

Well, some people at least...

Well they had to do a tutorial anyhow, and what better way to do it than actually incorporate one of the main characters instead of having the boring old "text at the bottom of the screen" method? It was a creative idea that made Navi seem more like a guide and teacher rather than an idle bystander.

My real opinion on my people think Navi is so annoying (other than my script I posted) is because she's a main character who is *always* with Link. During the first couple hours of game play she's alright until you have played a long time and start hearing her voice 2 or 3 times every ten to fifteen minutes. Just like with most things you listen to if you hear it too much it gets annoying to you. Still, there are some people who don't care about it (me, for one) much and can handle repetitive sounds, or don't even notice it (me). Perhaps it's because when I did play OOT I never played it for hours on end and the noises never really stuck.

Plus, the same could be said about Link's voice, especially since you hear it at least 3 times more than Navi's. While one could argue that Navi's has more of a pitch to it I still think that Link's voice could get on somebody's nerves too.

It wasnt what she sounded like, it was those damned interruptions, I'd be in the middle of something and she decides to chime in which pauses the whole game and then you have to scroll through whatever nonsense she is spouting, before you can get back to your game and play another 5 minutes before she does it again.

Ah, I guess I can sympathize with you for that, as I too when am deeply focused (or" comatose " as my dad calls it) on a game and it abruptly halts can get a little frustrated. But, you got to admit, other than in the Deku tree, it doesn't happen often. Unless, of course, you absolutely love playing the Deku tree level as child Link and do it again and again, then I can understand.

No I mean when it happened later on.

And it did happen, frequently.

That's why I prefer Midna than Navi. She didn't interrupt so frequently with useless information that is easy enough to discover on your own.

Midna usually complained and had an interesting history to tell. She was a terrific character.

Navi on the other hand... T_T

Gameplay was more developed then, of course she seems a better character.

What if Navi had a story to tell too?

Navi couldn't compare.

Midna was the main character in TP, you honestly can't top that.

Well if Navi had a dark story that connected to the storyline and for the fact that she stops her annoying frequent "HEY" screams, then I'll reconsider...

Whatever man, I'm just saying, some people tend to overreact or over-exaggerate when describing how "annoying" Navi is.

See what I mean?

Take away Midnas interesting dialogue, back story, and pretty looks, how does she size up to Navi now? (this is more for you, Aziel Satori)

I'm sure that she would be just as if not more annoying than Navi if the playing field was level.

Uh you can't take away all of that since she is the main character of Twilight Princess.


Even if you did take it all away, she is still better than Navi, simply because she doesn't annoy you like Navi did.

Midna is way more hands off, because thank god, Nintendo actually listens to it's fans.

They learned their lesson with Navi, Tatl was far more improved, and they have only gotten better since then.

I haven't played TP yet, but I'm wondering, does Midna ever notify or make an alerting gesture/noise to Link when giving him instructions?

Because what I'm understanding from you is that she is perfect.
