Re: Magic
You know what I was thinking about it some more, and I'm really surprised that I didn't notice. If you had told me that prior to the games release I probably would have been annoyed about it, but after playing (and enjoying) the game it really didn't bother me.

Re: Magic
Well, I guess that is one way they made the game a little more realistic. Though I do really hope that in future titles they do bring it back. I thoroughly missed seeing that green bar under my hearts, as well as the items associated with it (fire/ice/useable light arrows).

Re: Magic
ok check this out...
![]() Do my eyes deceive me or does that green bar under that row of hearts look somewhat like a MAGIC BAR!! I noticed this before the game came out on the official zelda website in the screenshots section of the TP page. When i first saw this i was excited to see that magic had made it into the new game but upon completion of the game i was confused, i thought that i may have done something wrong, or completely missed something, but i hadnt it just wasnt there. Nintendo must have initially wanted to have magic in the game but something obviously changed their mind between when they started on the game and the release date.

Re: Magic
The ice and fire arrows in WW were totally useless. They serve one purpose, to obtain two necessary items. Two if you include the windfall lighthouse.
Big deal. I didn't miss magic since it was damn useless in the WW. Never had any real useful magic-using items in the 3d games. We might have had magic if they didn't make a Wii version, it was because of it that the development was cut short. Magic got cut, 2 dungeons got cut, who knows what else.

Re: Magic
There's actually green chu jelly in TP, which would've replenished magic power. Just get a yellow chu and a blue chu to join together, and then kill the resulting green chu.

This isn't even mentioning the magical abilities which don't use items, such as the Spin Attack in all 3d games except TP, The Deku Scrub's bubble, the Goron's spiked roll, the Zora's electric shield, and FD Link's sword-beam thingies, all from MM. All in all, I'd say magic was useful in general, although as TP shows, there are other ways to do things. (Bomb Arrows, Lantern Oil, Magic Armor, etc.)

Re: Magic
BA are a Link's Awakening thing that they brought back for TP.
I was comparing it to the older games. You had a ton of items in the older games which used magic. But ever since the 3d games we haven't had alot of that. I'm talking required items. All we really had were the magic arrows. I'm leaving MM out of the comparison because it's the odd one out. You never need to get NL, or the magic armor. That leaves you with what? Din's fire in OoT, and the arrows. Sure things like the leaf and lens used magic, but they weren't that magical. I'm talking stuff like the magic rods we used to have, the canes, all that stuff, that is just completely missing from the 3d games. Most of the stuff we get in the 3d games is practical in a non magical sense, hookshots and boots and all that other stuff.

But anyways, I agree wholeheartedly that without magic, TP suffered a major bio-cardial infarction. Not saying I don't like TP, just could have been ALOT better with magic. Why on EARTH did they take it out???

Re: Magic
Because the Fire/Ice arrows are useless.

At least it seems we can agree that Majora's Mask had a good usage of magic. (Or do you count it out of every Zelda game comparison you do?) Just Din's Fire really; I only counted the light arrows because you had them for a decent amount of time in MM. They weren't strong enough in OoT, and gotten too late in WW to be counted. And although it's true you never need to get those other things, they can still be useful. After doing some research, I found that LttP was the only 2d Zelda game really booming in the magical item department. LoZ had a candle and a magic book & wand, AoL had no items; only spells. LA had the Magic Powder and Magic Rod, the Oracle games had the Magic Boomerang, Cane of Somaria, and the Harp of Ages & Rod of Seasons, if you include them. Note that none of the above items mentioned used Magic in the way the 3d games' items used magic. I don't know about the Four Swords games, but Minish Cap has the Gust Jar, Cane of Pacci, and Flame Lantern, and Phantom Hourglass has the titular hourglass, if you count that. I don't know if the items from those last two games use magic or not. I think the MC ones do. :/ So in general, throughout ALL of the games except LttP, the items are essentially non-magical. It's the 3d games which have the most magic, excluding AoL.
