Re: Do you use a guide?
I never use a guide or walkthrough, not even for 100% completement. Even though sometimes i may get fustratingly stuck, i still prefer to figure things out on my own. It also gives you a better sense of accomplishment when you finally finish the game.

Re: Do you use a guide?
I'm an older ZU fan, and back in '88 there were no guides (that I knew of), and no online guides (there was no internet available in my area then), so I drove myself crazy trying to beat the original LoZ.
Fast forward 20 years......... with a wife, job and family, I'll admit I used an online guide to play and beat AoL (I'm currently playing all the games in order.... as long as I can get them for the gamecube). I just finished OoT playing w/ my little boy on my lap. He kept trying to grab the guide (maybe a hint to put it away!), but I used it anyway to play and beat OoT. You've all got me thinking........ maybe I'm missing out the exploration part of Zelda games. Thinking back 20 years ago, it was a bit more exciting just wondering around Hyrule for weeks trying to find my way. MM is next............. I have the guide, but I think I'll try the game without it! Thanks! |

Re: Do you use a guide?
The only Zelda game I've used a guide for was Majoras Mask. I bought it before the game even came out.. I'm glad I used it too because I would of never figured that out in those days. I was an idiot. Since then the other games that have came out didn't seem to require me to need a guide.

Re: Do you use a guide?
Sometimes... I have never used a guide except for finding the final heart pieces in ALTTP and TP because I was totally stuck on that puzzle where the two statue gods protect the Master Sword and I just couldn't find a way even after three hours.
That was about it. I used a guide for MM but I still haven't finished it to this day.

Re: Do you use a guide?
Only for the extras. Even then, I try to use them as sparingly as possible. I'm sure that at some point in time I have used a guide during the main game, but I don't even remember the last time that was. Probably for OoT, but don't quote me on that.

Re: Do you use a guide?
Most people I know consider using guides to be cheating, but Nintendo wouldn't have printed them in the first place if they knew people wouldn't use them. The only time I used one was for the water temple in Ooc, which drives me up the wall insane. All the other times I've muddled my way through, including how to find the bunny hood. So for me, guides are just fun to look at. Great pictures! =)

Re: Do you use a guide?
I don't think guides are cheating...I think codes and gameshark is cheating.
I think that whatever makes it fun is ok. I like beating a game with a guide at first, then cheating and playing around and stuff. But you can't get down on someone for using one if it makes the experience more fun for them. |

Re: Do you use a guide?
...Ocarina of Cheese?
I did use a walkthrough on hard puzzles back when OoT just came out. I was just a kid back then, so I don't really blame myself. I'm not shy of using guides to finding all the heartpieces, or certain extra items such as the Biggoronsword. Try figuring that one out on your own ![]() Oh, an exception to that, I guess, is using a guide to find the Triforce pieces in the Wind Waker. I did a few on my own account and then it just started to become this tedious task which didn't add anything to the game for me. So, yeah. It was fun sailing around to get them, though. And coughing up ridiculuous amounts of rupees. And I looked at the LoZ map once because I couldn't find the Level 2 dungeon. (I had beaten 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 so not being able to find Level 2 really frustrated me )

Re: Do you use a guide?
I sometimes use guides after i have beaten the game to try to get the extra stuff. Only time i used a guide to help the main story in a Zelda game was getting the triforce in tWW.
