I've never played these games but I have seen a lot of videos of the gameplay. I must say, as Zelda games, they just look horrible. Zelda II, which also is a sidescroller, seems to have great controls compared to the two sidescrolling CD-i games.
BUT, if you look past the fact that you're playing with Link or Zelda, they look like OK games... almost. The controls seem to be quite bad and awkward. It's hard to tell though since my opinions are based on videos, but pushing UP to jump has seldom been a good idea for sidescrolling games.
When it comes to graphics, I think they do look quite cool actually. Note that I'm talking about the gameplay graphics, NOT the cutscenes.
