Were the CD-i Games Really So Terrible?

Before I'm killed by a legion of Zelda fanboys, hear me out; I have never played the CD-i games, therefore I don't know if they are fun or not. But my friend recently showed me this article, and I think it sheds some light on the games' "atrocities".

As I read the article, I took it into consideration that no one ever does talk about the gameplay; they just criticize the bad cutscenes, voice acting and the fact that they have Zelda as the main character. I've never heard anyone ever talk about the actual gameplay. What's up with that? Before you maul me to death, please read the entire article. It's really worth it.

Way to miss the point completely. I've seen the cutscenes, and they are bad, but did you even read the article like I asked? The entire point of it is that people are judging the game based solely on those cutscenes instead of the actual gameplay.

Seriously, read the entire article. I'm not saying the games don't suck. I haven't played them, so I can't have an actual opinion.

Most people never talk about the gameplay because most people can't endure the cutscenes long enough to get to the gameplay.

Doesn't look like anything special from the videos on Youtube, but I've never played them, so I guess I can't say.

They were mediocre games, not bad, but definetly not Zelda standards. Personally i don't think much of the gameplay. Sometimes it was hard to step up on platforms and the last bosses were... um yeah YouTube - Link Faces of evil cd-i ending zelda

Most people hate the games because they ruined the zelda characters. They made them retarded disfigures who cannot communicate without using exaggerated hand gestures. Although I agree that most people diss them without ever having played the games. They really shouldn't be allowed to judge them without even trying them first, thats like the zelda fanboys who rated Twilight Princess 10/10 before it even came out.

Okay, I knew the cut scenes were bad, and the very small 3 minute thing I played on the internet I must say had pretty bad gameplay, but having that as a final boss fight is just pathetic.

I know about the gameplay.My uncle bought the cdi just for the zelda games.He told me about them.Now whenever someone mentions those games i go and lay in the corner.Now excuse while i go to the corner

I've never played these games but I have seen a lot of videos of the gameplay. I must say, as Zelda games, they just look horrible. Zelda II, which also is a sidescroller, seems to have great controls compared to the two sidescrolling CD-i games.

BUT, if you look past the fact that you're playing with Link or Zelda, they look like OK games... almost. The controls seem to be quite bad and awkward. It's hard to tell though since my opinions are based on videos, but pushing UP to jump has seldom been a good idea for sidescrolling games.

When it comes to graphics, I think they do look quite cool actually. Note that I'm talking about the gameplay graphics, NOT the cutscenes.

i here am a person who have actually played these games and honestly can say they suck. the gameplay was way too easy and short the cutscenes were prety lame the controls were kind of sloppy it made link and zelda talk with voices which ruined it and finally the levels had uncreative enemies and the levels were repetitive so i can truly say that they suck

Well put. That is pretty much the same thing anyone else who has played will tell you. However, there are many games other people say suck, but I love, so I'd ultimatly say, find out for your self.

Well one part is dumb because link breaks out of a mirro and says great and everyone laughs like a pack of retards

They did a LoZ Abridged series and one episode included clips fom it its the one by adamwestsalpdog

You missed the entire point. We're ignoring the cutscenes here. Talk about the actual gameplay mechanics like Monkeybob34.

Oh, and yes, Adamwestslapdog's Zelda parody was excellent. Link was an idiot and Navi and Zelda were both PMSing... female dogs.
