What religion are Miyamoto and co?

Just curious, maybe they've slipped some references in.

I think they're probably Shinto, which would explain some of the stuff in the games.

Most writers and such often put all sorts of real world mythology and religon into their works. So theres a good chance they put some of their beliefs into the games, but would be hard to tell.

The Japanese people are much less divisive and definitive when it comes to religion, leading to the intermingling of several different customs and beliefs. That being said, the two primary religions of Japan are Buddhism and Shinto, but most Japanese people don't necessarily classify themselves as one or the other.

Well, I don't know, but aren't there quite a few Torii in The Wind Waker? Plus some of the stuff seems in line with Shinto beliefs.

Hardly anyone in the world is Shinto outside of Japan. However, Shinto is a widely practiced religion in Japan.

The Japanese seem to love slipping in random religious references from random religions in random places. Having lots of a particular type of symbolism doesn't mean anything. (Note: Neon Genesis Evangelion)

Zelda has Christian references, Muslim references, Buddhist references, and several other types that I can't recall or didn't notice.

Ignore the little troll I hope he gets banned. He does this in every post. Yeah Shigeru miamoto's a shinto like the majority of Japanese people, I belive then references he was mentioning are the similiarity of monsters like the Keaton to creatures in shinto mythology. But it really doesn't effect the games too much, there are a lot of cross culture references in Zelda.

Either way, mere mythological references don't really say much, it would be something else if they actually incorporated religious messages and values into the games. And I know there are alot of theories that are saying that those elements are in fact present in the Zelda series, but they make me very skeptical. Partly because they always seem to be based on Christianity, which is tiny in Japan, and also because they're usually incredibly generic.

"Man, Link is obviously based on Jesus. And that Ganondorf, he's clearly standing in for Satan!
In fact, the Gods plotted the entire thing in order punish the people for not hanging around in their temples enough!"

You know, the kind of thing that can be applied to just about any story out there.
