If Nintendo kept the same style as MM's Skull Kid then people will be like "OMG!!! TP comes after MM just because of the Skull Kid!!!" I know some people won't do that but some would do that if Nintendo kept the TP Skull Kid wooden.

Probably to make him fit his name better. The TP Skull Kid actually looks like something I'd call a Skull Kid.
