What's the best order to play Zelda console games?

OOT cause it takes place before the other games, therefore it helps you understand the story better before you play the other ones. Then play WW (it is the best Zelda game).

IMO

1. Ocarina of Time
2. The Wind Waker
3. Majora's Mask
4. Twilight Princess

After which, play them in any order that interests you!

You don't really have to worry too much about order.

This wanted things to make sence though, I'd probably break down the series into 4 sets.

Set 1: LoZ - AoL - ALttP
Set 2: OoT - MM - TP - TWW - PH
Set 3: LA - OoA/S
Set 4: TMC - FSA

It honestly wouldn't matter what set you played first or last, but the first 2 sets are the most important. I would probably play Set 2 first, and then Set 1.

Thanks! This is the first time I saw the "set" idea proposed. Why wouldn't FSA be in set #1? I only say this since it is somewhat a 2D game like the others listed in set #1.

Also, did you purposely transpose TP with TWW? Otherwise, set #2 would be by release date............ just curious.

Keep in mind, I'm just asking since the only one I've played is the original LoZ!

FSA is "different" then the originals.

Also, he probably put TP over TWW, because TP feels like a more "natural" evolution of OoT and MM. TWW is rather different (But still very similar and amazing).

Nintendo Togepi - Thanks very much for including your rankings. I read them with great interest. Over the last few days, I've actually attempted AoL, and I concur with you, it is very hard, and a bit unclear. I'll give it a few more days, but it is just simply not at all like the original LoZ.

Regarding your suggestion to me yesterday, you placed TWW between OoT and MM. I lot of folks claim that MM is a natural sequel to OoT. Did you place TWW in between because you feel it is a better flow after OoT?

NintedoTogepi is correct.

I put TP before TWW just because I believe story-arch wise it comes before TWW and would make more sence to play first, IMHO. I just think it would break the flow going from a land Hyrule, to water Hyrule, back to a land Hyrule.

The reason FSA isn't in set one is because it doesn't really fit the story. The first 3 games kind of follow the same formula and story, where as FSA fits in with The Minish Cap's story and flow.

MidnightSun --- Thanks for the explanation! I never thought about the "land" hyrule vs the "water" hyrule. Therefore, TWW could be played out of order.

I'll hammer through AoL (following your set#1 idea, and simultaneously the release date idea) for a while longer. If I get too frustrated, I'll move on to OoT.

Since FSA is so different, I may hold off that one until last. Perhaps my little boy will be old enough to know what he's doing (he's just 2 years old now!), and I can buy the special cable so we both can play FSA. A few folks said it is a lot of fun with 2 or more people playing together.

I'd play them in the order they came out. I played them as they were released, and it's interesting to see the way the series has evolved from game to game. And yes, FSA is great fun with several people playing.

I placed TWW in between because yes, it follows a lot of the concepts and story introduced in OoT, and really doesn't have anything from MM in it.

Playing MM right after OoT is good too though.

After some more thinking about the 3D games, I'd think I'd reccomend OoT > MM > TWW > TP, the order they were released. But OoT > MM > TP > TWW works well too.

I'd say play OoT and MM, and then decide whether you feel like another land game or a change

Incorrect. Have you ever even played WW? The main character you control is Link, and Zelda is featured as a main character towards the end of the game.
As for Master Jedi being homosexual, I don't think there is any evidence in his post for or against that, so I would be interested to know how you came to that conclusion. I don't think his name is important; if you notice, there are plenty of people who don't have Zelda-related names on this site (myself included).

Now that's a good idea. Definitely something I would recommend, Gregg, and very logical grouping of the games.

i would play it based on my timline theory(which i didnot create).First oot,then MM then loz,aol,then based on split timeline(part of my theory)you choose which next.TP or windwaker.Of course ph after WW

You play as Link! You don't play as OOT Link but you still play as Link. Plus, what do you mean it doesn't have a part in the story?
