Its never 'queen' Zelda

Its always princess Zelda, Wouldnt she be considered the official Ruler and called Queen after a while, but the story never goes that far.

You never know, her mother may only be 34. Meaning that she will be queen for a long while. Hopefully Link will figure out that he is so called "Destined for Zelda" and marry her. And ruling won't be an issue, because Link would establish an Oligarchy.

Re: Its never 'queen' Zelda

Given how LoZ fits into a sort of traditional medieval fairy tale kingdom, I'd say the most reasonable explanation for Zelda still being a Princess is that she is unmarried. In TP she appears to be ruling alone, and in OoT, her father is presumed dead by the end of the story yet she's still Princess.
If Hyrule was a principality ( by modern terms ) she could stay Princess and have ascended the throne, but it's undoubtably a kingdom: we've seen numerous kings. I'd say the marriage thing must be what's keeping her back.

That is a good answer... we really never know much about the rule of hyrule do we?

Re: Its never 'queen' Zelda

A king/queen is only a king/queen when he/she is married to he/she. As long as Zelda isn't married to either someone of royalty or someone else, she can't be queen unless she finally inherits the throne of Hyrule.

Nah, I'm joking. This is the most probable and logical reason. Good theorising gliderpilot (:

In OoT, her kingdom isn't really hers anymore as Ganon pretty much takes over... In TP wel can assume the King has died only a very short while ago, perhaps even during Zant's invasion of Hyrule Castle. This Zelda probably didn't even had a good chance to find a man good enough to be the new king.

That, and Miyamoto and Aonuma most likely think people would prefer to save a young, innocent and beautiful princess. Be honest, would YOU be willing to save a fat, married queen?

Re: Its never 'queen' Zelda

I'm pretty sure that Zelda does become a queen later on, we just don't get to see it.

That was part of the gist of that awesome article on Zeldablog ( which seems to be gone as a site )
Princess seems to have the connotation of young, beautiful and desirable: most importantly, available. Queen doesn't.

Eternal Sunshine: I don't think it's much to joke about: I see that as a big part of the reason why Zelda IS single and still a Princess...so the possibility of Link becoming King through marriage exists. In the manual of AoL, it even hints that Link IS the king to come, and I've heard tales of an interview that confirmed it for that Link. I have no problem believing in that fate for the other Link's as well.
If this fate wasn't a viable option, I couldn't see any reason why they haven't promoted her to Queen, or allowed her to have a solid romantic interest. Ultimately, it's all related and centred around Link.

Queen Zelda just sounds funny; but then again, we've been saying Princess Zelda since 1987.

Princess Zelda has a nice ring to it. Queen Zelda does not.
