Yes, you can swing your sword eouth-east. You need to turn east, because he swings only 90 degrees. (Also writing 90 degrees made me realise there is no degree mark on my keyboard). -__-

uh, you can swing southeast. Just turn to the southeast and push B.

Fire arrows are very impractical, though. They weren't used that commonly, only for sieges and destroying wooden buildings, and only became common in warfare when they could be filled with gunpowder. They were made so they would burn, but not explode. Some did explode, though, and basically became the first propelled explosive in europe.

They could only use them for short distances, though. If the arrow gained altitude, the flame might go out. You'd have to reach a high altitude to shoot far distances, though. Also, the advent of the crossbow made fire arrows more popular, as they shot straighter and farther.
