"Peter Pan vs Link", because of this topic I looked up what it was that inspired Shigeru Miyamoto to create the Zelda games and this is what I found:

Inspiration
The Legend of Zelda was principally inspired by Shigeru Miyamoto's explorations as a young boy in the hillsides surrounding his childhood home in Kyoto,[4] where he ventured into forests with secluded lakes, caves, and rural villages. According to Miyamoto, one of his most memorable experiences was the discovery of a cave entrance in the middle of the woods. After some hesitation, he apprehensively entered the cave, and explored its depths with the aid of a lantern. This memory has clearly influenced Miyamoto's work, as cave exploration is often a major component of most Zelda games (usually by the light of a lantern). Other than Miyamoto's childhood, Norse and Japanese mythologies have played a large role influencing the series. Miyamoto has referred to the creation of the Zelda games as an attempt to bring to life a "miniature garden" for players to play with in each game of the series.[5]
Hearing of F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife Zelda, Mr. Miyamoto thought the name sounded "pleasant and significant."[6] Paying tribute, he chose to name the Princess after her, and titled his creation The Legend of Zelda.}
This is the link to the page I found in wikipedia:
The Legend of Zelda (series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, so Miyamoto didn't get Zelda of from Peter Pan, it was even argued that he may have got it (or most of it) from the movie "Legend" staring Tom Cruise,
Legend (film) Information, I've seen the movie and it seemed more like Zelda that Peter Pan did so you can show your cusin these links if you want so they can understand where Zelda actually came from.
My post was kind of long, sorry 'bout that.
