Re: Hylian Language

Hey, another update, although I have to admit, it tis a minor one really. Here is the new alphabet, with a tweaked letter. I did not like the vowel 8 representing 'Aa', so I had it changed. It is also more aesthically pleasing to look at. Here you go.

Comments welcome.

Re: Hylian Language

How long are you going to be working on this?
Its one thing to make a new alphabet but make a whole new langauge with its own rules.
Wooh you must be like some kind of langauge master.

I like the whole thing youve done with the nouns and the three goddesses.

Hopefully, I would like to be finished with it by the end of the spring semester for those of us still in school, but that's only a goal. Very could easily change. Unfortunately, I am not a language master, but hey, one can dream.

Thank you, and I hope this is just as well done.

Ok, this is probably the final rendition of the alphabet, minus the characters. My next update might be a good ways off, as now I have to create the phonetic restrictions, such as not being able to say -dj at the end of a syllable and all that junk. I am already half way through so that I can't get to some of the cooler stuff, but just bear with me. Thanks again for your support.

Oh, one last quick question. Would you guys cared if I changed the names significantly to better fir the language? For example, instead of Gerudo, would Zherundo be ok (Zh is the sound you hear when you say vi's'ion, it is not a sound we have a letter for in Enlish yet we use it all the time)?

Thanks again!

Re: Hylian Language

Ok, guys, I need a little help. I have been searching for a font creating program and have so far not found much of anything. If anyone knows of a program that I could purchase for around $50 or less, or obtain for free, please let me know. Thanks!

Question

wow... are you sure this... thing is easy to learn and talk?
if you're planning to send this to nintendo, they would think that it's easier to get some decent voice acting and put it in the game.

Re: Hylian Language

It is easy to talk. Each letter has it's own distinct sound, except for U and |. They have allophones that are consonants when used as the first letter of a dipthong or tripthong.

For example, in order to say Yo, you would need to use the vowel | with the vowel O, like this |O. Instead of saying 'ee-oh', the 'ee' changes to 'y' and you pronounce 'yo'. Same for U. Instead of saying 'oo-oh' for UO, you would pronounce it 'wo'. Make sense yet?

Re: Hylian Language

Ok, guys, I first want to apologize for the long break in my work, but between playing in the Texas 2A State Championship and the Holidays, I have been unable to make much progress.

However, that does not mean that I have made no progress. I am about 40% through with making a downloadable font of my language. Anyone who can explain how to post this font on the website for download, please reply or PM me.

Secondly, due to various phonetic restrictions I am to place on the language, some of the main Zelda words are due to phonetic changes. Here are the list of words and their Hylian counter parts.

Zelda -> Seldah
Ganon -> Kannin
Gerudo -> Kehruto
Goron -> Korron
Din -> Tin

Now, let me explain. These are temporarily the form these words will take in my version of Hylian. As I develop the grammar more and/or gain feedback from you guys, these are subject to change to more aesthetically pleasing forms. A quick example is Link's name. Instead of simply being Link in Hylian, Linko is much more likely to be the Hylian equivalent to this English name, much as George in English and Jorge in Spanish. Happy holidays!

Re: Hylian Language

To start, after a long Christmas break, I had originally intended to bring you guys back a working font of my rendition of the Hylian language. Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in making a fully fledged, error free font using Font Creator.

However, I will proceed with the language none-the-less and hopefully someone will like my language enough to take it upon themselves to make a working font.

Next update, the grammar.

Re: Hylian Language

Well, well, this here will show you what a little bit of persistance will do for ya. I have managed to actually make a font for you guys to download and begin typing away at your own hearts desire. Hopefully this will pull more people into the project so that I can get some help. And without further ado, I present to you, Hylian.

*added to post*

Just wanted to make the thread a little more organized by moving the current projects to the first post as well as providing a section to check out what I'm working on next.

If anyone is still following this project, please let me know what you think of everything so far, thanks!

Re: Hylian Language

In one of the instruction manual of the Legend of Zelda, the Nintendo company sould do like they did on Star Fox Dinosaur Planet. They should put in the back of the manual the translation of the Hylian language in english. Because there are a lot of translations but which one is the correct one.

Re: Hylian Language

I am having some difficulty. I guess it is kinda like writers block, but I'm having trouble deciding what to do with nouns. Originally, I had planned to have three classes of nouns that represented everything in the universe. For example, Din's class of nouns would have anything do to with the physical world. Farore would be any living creature, and Nayru would have though and intelligence.

The problem with this classification are things that take intelligence to make, but are of the physical world. Take swords for example, they are made from metal, Din, but can't be built without intelligence, Nayru.

I have considered completely doing away with classes and instead just making certain classes for special nouns. For example, any living creature would have a certain ending for Farore class endings, but something like a fingernail, which woudl be connected to animate beings, would just be a noun, not necssarily ending with a noun class.

Any thoughts or comments are welcome.
