The Romance Thread IV: The Debate Continues

I don't think Colin had puppy love for Ilia.

Check it out: Talo dislikes Colin before Colin saved Beth. So they arn't friends. Malo hangs out with Talo, and probably feels similarly towards Colin. When Talo barred the way and asked Link for his sword, Talo was right there and made no objection.

Beth is smitten with Link and probably wouldn't hang out with Colin in between doing her puppy love thing, and girl stuff.

So that leaves noble Link who's a role model and wouldn't care if Colin had a meek personality, and somewhat mature Ilia (I wouldn't call her totally mature) who's the Mayor's daughter and probably also expected to be a role model because of it.

So he develops a friendship with whoever is nice to him, namely Link and Ilia. Probably not puppylove, just a bit of lonliness because the younger kids don't care for him much.

I can kind of relate to this.

I don't remember if she has a sword but it mentions something that her father, who was a knight of some sort, had trained her to fight, therefore it doesn't take much imagination to say she has a sword.

True there is little interaction with Link and Ashi in the TP game. But I still like LinkxAshi better than LinkxIllia due to IMO Illia's annoying over sugary sweet personality. In the beginning of the game I thought LinkxIllia had promise but by the time I had revived her memory I felt no interest in Link wanting to pursue her anymore. I thought overall Ashi's character seemed more interesting as a romantic interest despite her very limited role.

I think I saw a sword in a sheath on her somewhere, but even her saying that her father trained her tells you she fights anyway, regardless of what weapon she has. Link has a better chance with Ashei than Ilia, even if he knows Ilia better, because having Link go with someone he has more in common with (Ashei) will most likely result in a better working relationship. If he went with Ilia, he'd be gone all the time because of his duties. If he was with Ashei, they'd fight together, travel together, and as a result be together more like couples should. Heck, they could even teach their kid(s) how to fight as well.

While couples also need time away from each other, there isn't any reason why Link and Ashei can't separately visit other people they like when they aren't at battle. So LinkxAshei is more likely to work better than LinkxIlia, no matter how much better Link knows Ilia. I simply can't see it working out as well for them.

Yes, Ashei was a swordswoman(or whatever you call it), but just because they both have swords doesnt mean they like each other. Link showed no apparent interest in Ashei, just as Ashei never seems to show interest in Link. If they did, I might believe they'd be good together. But for now, I'd rather bet on Link and Telma than Link and Ashei

The Link x Ashei pairing is definately not one I would have thought of on my own: it's not one that's obvious like Link/Ilia and Link/Midna, IMO. But that notwithstanding as anything can truly happen: I don't think it would work, I feel Shad x Ashei is a better match.

In terms of a pairing with Link, I feel the love interest needs to have inner ( and outer ) strength balanced with a crucial warmth and compassion, something Link does not always provide. The best pairings I've seen with him ( OoT/MM Link/Zelda, WW/PH Link/Tetra for instance ) have Zelda in turn not only being strong when needed, but also showing deep empathy, especially for Link himself and he seems to respond to it. With Ashei, I saw no warmth, no special empathy for him, or anyone for that matter. In light of that, I don't see Link being comfortable enough to fall in love with Ashei.
With Ilia, I saw all warmth, but no strength. I saw no indication she could handle what he does, or who he is after the adventure. Would she sit in Ordon oblivious to all that? I think Link deserves better than someone who no longer truly knows him or can relate to him, and Ilia doesn't deserve to sit alone and left behind yet hindered from seeking another.

Back to Ashei: With Shad, he's not really not the fighting sort, and he struck me as more warm and upfront about how he feels...he might be perfect for a woman like Ashei.
I thought Midna was perfect ( at least at the end ) for Link, she not only knew him, but had the compassion and strength to handle who he truly was. But as the mirror was broken, the only one I can see who has the right heart for Link is Zelda, the light side of Midna's dark. There's not much to go on with that, but Ilia doesn't strike me as able to keep his heart now.

the poll speaks for itself! Zelda and Link are always destined to be together. I mean come on both have been through hell and high water.

Depends on which Link and Zelda you're referring to. OoT and WW Link and Zelda would be a fine match, but other than that, the other Links dont go as well with any other Zeldas. Well maybe in AoL, but I havent played the game so I dont know.

But like what was said before^^^^(by Gliderpilotgirl), Link and whoever need to have warmth and strengh together. And not all Links and Zeldas have that

I agree with your point that in TP Zelda and Midna were the strongest candidates for falling in love with Link and I stated that despite the limited interraction between Link and Ashei I still like it due to that IF I WERE Link thats who I would go for. As for ShadxAshei..I think Ashei would eat Shad alive in a possible romantic relationship. Shad would probably be better off trying to date a random Hyrule town shopgirl who can't beat him up like Ashei would if they got into a lovers arguement. Don't get me wrong...ShadxAshei would be a good opposites attract pairing but I doubt Shad could handle her since she is practically an amazon warrior with a cold attitude. At least Link could use his fighting skills to hold his own if he and Ashei ever got in an arguement or something

As "you are Link" in your game, it's entirely possible and therefore valid. But anyways, I'm trying to look at it from the outside even though I have a preference. ( All OoT's fault )
Actually, one thing I've noticed about woman like Ashei...tough, hardened by life and battle, I think she'd welcome a tender heart who saw through her. She's almost too like Link in that regard for it to work, IMO. Shad struck me as sweet and kind..and yet not as weak as he appears. I don't think he's the type to fall for some silly town girl who would drool over him because he can't handle Ashei's strength.

LoZ/AoL - Link and (formerly) sleeping Zelda presumably kiss, Link is hinted to be the future king
ALttP/LA - Link and Zelda have a long history together (likely knowing each other most of their lives), and Link, as wielder of the complete triforce, is a likely candidate for king (not to mention Marin, a likely dream representation of Zelda)
OoX - Zelda kisses Link, not much else, but enough to show feelings between the two
TMC - Childhood friends, likely too young to tell
FS/FSA - Childhood friends, likely too young to tell

Actually, Zelda in AoL is a different one than Zelda in LoZ, because the one in AoL have been sleeping for quite a while, also during Link's first adventure.

Though no indication that they actually know each other that well. A kiss doesn't necessarily mean romantic feelings, maybe just gratitiude. There is a chance that they do get to grow closer afterwards, though.


I mostly support Link x Zelda, but that's only for OoT/MM and WW, other games having potential for the two to get romantic.
