Why did you play zelda?

Okay, this is probably my first topic under the Zelda category, so bear with me. Why did you play Zelda in the first place? Why did you choose Zelda when you could have played any other game in the world? Was it a friend who referenced you? Perhaps you were just playing different games and came across one that you liked! What are your reasons?

Me, I played Zelda when my Uncle introduced it to me. He brought over his 64and put the game OoT in it. I was amazed at the time, and still am. Everytime I play OoT Zelda I am reminded of my lost childhood...The same goes for MM, it reminds me of a happier time. So I ask you....Why do you play Zelda?

Re: Why did you play zelda?

Its been 16-17 years, I don't even remember. I think it might of been my Dad, or my aunt and uncle. One of the earliest I can remember is standing in front of my TV late at night fighting Ganon in alttp.

Re: Why did you play zelda?

I think it was an article in Expert Gamer that inspired me to buy Majora's Mask. Since discovering the series, my reasons have changed from playing the games because they're fun, to playing them to escape from reality and get lost in the wonderful stories.

Boy was that cheesy.

Re: Why did you play zelda?

My two cousins were playing Ocarina of Time eight years ago. So I watched them play it for hours on end. I finally decided to try it for myself one day.
For the longest time it was the only Zelda game I have ever played, but within the last couple of months MM and Tp have been awesome.
I blame my cousins for my addiction.

Re: Why did you play zelda?

Back at the tender age of eight, I wanted a playstation. My brother said he would help me save so we could buy one together. When the time came to buy the Playstation, my brother bought an N64 instead while I waited at home. I was annoied at first, but he introduced me to Ocarina Of Time. Im glad things turned out the way they did, because since then I have played almost all the games in the Zelda series. Good times.

Re: Why did you play zelda?

Back in the days of the NES there was actually some hype built up about LoZ when it came out. Nothing like todays games where we're force fed commercials but nonetheless, there was some anticipation. I had my parents buy me LoZ when it first came out and I've been playing ever since.

Re: Why did you play zelda?

It all started when my brother bought it. I fell in love with the characters and the story. Everything about Ocarina of Time made me want to play it. (I was around 8 at the time.) When my brother completed the game, I wasn't there, and I felt so gutted, but at the same time it gave me an even greater ambition to play it myself and see the ending earned by me.

Finally, when I was a little older, maybe 10 or something, my brother finally let me play it, and I was ecstatic. I had a period of time where I didn't play the game for quite a few months, due to my parents restricting me from games for a while or something of the sort. After that time was over and I was allowed to play it again, (now being a bit older) I once again couldn't stop playing it.
Soon, I finally defeated Ganondorf, and I was so pleased with myself. I played it over and over. After a time, I decided it was time to play another Zelda game, and this is when I started looking into it. I found Majora's Mask. I soon fell in love with this game too, and I was determined to buy it. So I did.
It was almost like the experience of Ocarina of Time all over again. I loved it to bits, and I couldn't stop playing it until I finally completed it.

A while after I decided I wanted a GameCube, and scanning through eBay, I came across a GameCube which with it came two games free which I had to get. Ocarina of Time/Master Quest and The Wind Waker. I hadn't been too keen on Wind Waker at the time, but my brother said to get it anyhow, as Master Quest came with it anyway. So I did. My thoughts were soon changed on the aspect, and The Wind Waker too captured my heart. Everything, I loved about it.

So ever since then I waited for Twilight Princess, and now, I'm going to be buying Zelda games until the end of time.

Re: Why did you play zelda?

I startes playing Zelda when my mom and dad got me a GameCube bundled with the Collector's Edition. I believe the first Zelda game I played was OoT. Ever since I beat it, I've loved the Zelda series. The first Zelda game I bought was WW, after it was out for a while.

Re: Why did you play zelda?

The first time I ever played Zelda was when my uncle gave me an N64 for Christmas. Eventually I just got hooked on it. It was one of the only games I ever came across that my friends played.

Eventually, I got bored after beating it twice. Two years later, at Christmas, I tried to get back into the game, so I asked mom for a GCN and TWW. Which was what I got. Then I got bored of it after beating it eight times.

Then when TMC came out, I got that and beat it and continued playing it, trying to beat it completely. Then when TP came out, I asked for that and dropped TMC. I had also gotten MM, so I got hooked on that until my brother erased my data.

And that's whay I play, it's so good, it's addicting.

Re: Why did you play zelda?

When I was a kid I knew about Zelda thanks to videogames magazines and the Zelda cartoon actually I always watched the super mario bros. super show and they had a small promotion for the Zelda cartoon always, and it was always the same. Anyway it wasn't until a few years later I got Link's Awakening for the Game Boy, I always knew it was a "legendary" game, and I wanted some good GB game, so I went with that. I not only got a good GB game, but one of the best XD

Re: Why did you play zelda?

Oh I remember it rather well...
(Which is a miracle, I have the most worse memory in the world XD)
It was my...9th B-day I think... (Born 1991) and I had a choice of going somewhere - forgot where, or having a N64...
At this point I had only played 3 previous game on the PC. So still new to the idea of gaming.. and after a few days of thinking, I chose the console, that came with a few games I had it second hand...
Anyway, a few weeks later, the day came around...
after unwrapping it eagerly, and then having my father set it up..
I remember that music from the start... and Link going around on the horse... the sound, the scenery, and everything just seemed so magical...
Ever since then I've been hooked to gaming...

Re: Why did you play zelda?

Well, somehow I had the original Zelda for the NES and I played it for a while and absolutely loved it (I was REALLY young at the time, like maybe 6 or 7 years old).

A few years later one of my cousins introduced me to Ocarina of Time (at the time I had no idea their were more Zelda games). I played it, and got hooked. That's when I became the Zelda fanatic that I am now.

Re: Why did you play zelda?

The first Zelda game I played was actually Wind Waker. I bought a Gamecube and I was looking for new games to play. Since I heard great things about the Legend of Zelda series a purchased it and then became hooked. I loved the storyline, the items, and the fact that it was just one enormous world to explore. I soon bought some GB Zeldas, OOT, MM, and the rest is history.

When I was a kid, I owned the original game. It was a cool game, because it was more complicated than my other ones, and I could save.

The next Zelda I played was Link's Awakening because I never bought Adventure of Link or an SNES. That's when I became a real fan. After playing OoT, I fell in love with the series.

Nowadays I play the series in the hopes that Zeldas will return to the greatness that was the older games. ALttP has more dungeons and inventory items than every other game, which says a lot about the series.

ALttP and LA were trend starters for the series, since ALttP started the "get three items, get master sword, get more items, fight Ganon" trend, and LA started the bittersweet ending trend that some later Zeldas have. It was also the first game where Link develops a true emotional bond with a female character, I believe. We know that Marin was the last thing he thought of when he woke up, because a distant seagull makes him remember her face, and she appears in the sky.

Later games have things that make them great, like TWW's expansive overworld and sailing aspect, and the Oracle's password system that makes it the biggest adventure yet. MM also has the best Temple (Stone Tower) and best town in the series.

Most Zeldas have little things that make them stand out, but I don't think any new standards or trends have been set since ALttP and LA. Except perhaps OoT's 3D feel. I will continue to play, and continue to wait for the perfect Zelda.
