I just noticed something/ TP or MM
Why is it that most TP haters are MM lovers, and most MM haters(like me) are TP lovers(like me)?
Is there something about the formula that make the fans like the opossite?

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
I think this is partly true.
I think you'll find that fans of Majora's Mask appreciate and fully enjoy the non-linear, far more character-driven story, whereas Twilight Princess lovers dislike the complexity of the character-driven quests for the sake of a more linear, plot-driven story. I personally feel that Twilight Princess is a shallow, hollow and dead game with regards that apart from play through the game's levels, there's hardly anything else to do, no involving sidequests, hardly any NPC interaction, and for a game that boasted to have the most NPCs of a Zelda game (which is most likely true) it seems that all of them were wasted, as most of them had no interaction, no personality, leaving it a rather dull and bland game. It tended to focus only on the main plot; saving the Twilight Realm and Hyrule from destruction and little else. No characters were developped and characterised at all with the sole exception of Midna who was provided with a very intricate story. I believe that the creators were far more focused on producing a more visually compelling game that they forsook substance in sake of graphics. Majora's Mask on the other hand, had a main plot (stop the moon from destroying Termina) but this main plot was heavily diluted with sub-plots and sidequests froomthe NPCs. The characterisation of characters were excellent in this game - almost every NPC had a detailed backstory, a purpose and a relevence in the game, and more often than not, it was impossible toprogress or complete the game with all items without taking part in the sidequests. Perhaps the TP lovers find the very complex sidequests boring? No clue. Additionally, most Majora's Mask fans enjoyed and appreciated the challenges of the three-day system, and liked the fact that it gave some very interesting positive and negative effects, like saving your progress at the cost of your stocked inventory. Most TP lovers seem to put it down as too constrictive. Also, I've noted that fans of Majora's Mask love the more difficult setting of the game, and find Twilight Princess far too easy, I mean, the game's difficulty was pathetic, it really was. COnversely, I've noted from posts in the forums that fans of Twilight Princess feel that Majora's Mask is too confusing and too difficult for them, and they easily tire of the game and stop playing very early on. That's what I've gotten the impression of, after reading the posts about the games from these two groups here on ZU and other Zelda forums... |

I am a...
Majora's Mask > Twilight Princess Twilight Princess was puny. MM was dark and evil. In MM, hundreds of peoples lives are on the line. You must rise up and become a true hero with hard-wrenching temples, devastating enemies, and mind-blowing puzzles. Twilight Princess is well...Twilight Princess...

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
I'll first say that I love both TP and MM. I do agree though that TP is a lot easier than MM, but I don't personally think the difficulty affects the fun level of a game all that much (unless of course if a game is waaaaayyyyy toooo hard).

I love both MM and TP. I always get the feeling that most WW lovers are TP haters and viseversa (again, I love them both, but TP more).

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
I would agree with SuperDecimal on this and I am a MM guy but at the same time I do enjoy Twilight Princess, nowhere near as much though. In thoery I like all Zelda games but I can see what you mean. While I have always been a MM nut and it might never be beaten by another Zelda to me; I can find time for a game like TP. I kind of have made peace with the latter. I do hope the next one follows a MM game style though.

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
I think if they made a nice feature that if you beat the game the first way through, you should be able to play a second time but without the time-limit.
I think the time-limit was the only bad thing about Majora's Mask, but it is very crucial to the plot, so it "had" to be in there.

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
Why do peope hate TP so much, seriously. I could go into the argument on MM vs TP, but I'm not going to. I agree with you all that they are both good, but some people just bash the game as if it were like another mario party (the same and just a really mediocre game) Read Mirren's article on TP.
Sheesh, have a little respect for the game, Sander K.

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
I don't think we truly "hate" the game, more that it was too hyped to be something that it really wasn't.

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
I agree with you James. The game had way to high expectations. That doesn't change the fact that it still is a great game AND improves on several parts of its predecessors. Sure, it doesn't have some of MM's stuff. But did MM have such a big world, such combat, such beautiful (if easy) dungeons. To be honest I liked the dungeons in MM, but the amount of them and the fun factor weren't that great (to me). MM made up with its masks and sidequests.
Bottom line, every Zelda is great, some just excell in different areas, Sander K.

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
MM sucks TP rules. MM is confusing and really doesn't have an interesting storyline. Tp on the other hand has better dungeons, and you don't have to do them in whole. In MM, if you turn off the game you have to do the dungeon over even if you saved. If the dungeons in MM were remotley as entertaining as the ones in TP then people would finish them in one sitting. c'mon, WW was better than MM

Quote:
MM's dungeons were mainly far better constructed than Twilight Princess's. You had to watch at every detail intrinsically, unlike in TP's dungeons. TP's dungeons were mostly plain and extremely easy to figure out. This actually doesn't involve anything based on opinion.

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
Actually I think both games have good dungeons, but MM had Great bay temple, which, in my opinion, was the suckiest dungeon in zelda history. Aside from that, the MM dungeons were excellent. The TP dungeons were even more excellent, so, yeah.

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
Here's my opinion in a (quick and dirty) nutshell:
Majora's Mask = Original Twilight Princess = Unoriginal. I love to see new ideas in a series. MM had what I was looking for, TP did not.

Re: I just noticed something/ TP or MM
no
no no no no MM is completley annoying. It has NO atomosphere. And you say it's unoriginal, ok so OoT had Zant, MM had the Twilight. You guys need to give up. "Oh, but Link gets to transform in MM." well, look here you do in TP too, but you guys would play that as "unoriginal" the makers wanted to have some past things from other games in here so you guys would wouldn't complain about NOT having it like you all did with the wind waker. MM=unoriginal. Ocarina, used in OoT. and it is basicly your lifeline in the game. tp ISN"T the most original zelda out there. Just alittle more than MM. WW is the most original
