Capcom Closes down Studio responsible for handheld Zelda

Well , it seems that Capcom's continued axing of its studios has claimed Flagship, the Studio resonpsible for the two outings on the GBA and the oracle games.

While the studio employees remain employed at Capcom I find it sad that these people will no longer be providing us with 2d Zelda games. Thoughts?

Thank God! They did a good job on Seasons and Ages, but The Minish Cap is the lowest game in the series.

i doubt there will be any more 2d Zelda games any way,'cus the DS can support 3d graphics, so it won't make any sense to release 2d games

x2. There's no need for 2D Zelda anymore. Leave the classics 2D and move on with the series in 3D!

well the first hanheld zelda was from nintendo (Link's Awakening), and it is by FAR the best handheld zelda until here, let's see if Phantom hourglass (also from nintendo) surpass it.

Re: Capcom Closes down Studio responsible for handheld Zelda

NOOOOO! i love 2d zelda games(I also love 3d ones, but that is beside the point), the fact of it is, 2d zelda games are released much faster than 3d ones. I really liked seasons and handheld ALttP/FS and I loved TMC, I haven't played Link's Awakening yet though. This makes me sad. Il Pleur dans mon Coeurs pour le deces de Flagship
Pardon my french

Sadly, those were the best Zelda games out there, LA, OoS, OoA had that old school Zelda feel, now it'll be gone.

They always do this!!!!! This is just like how they closed the company (I think its called Clover Studio) that made Okami, aka the best Zelda imitation thats not Zelda.
It sucks.

The death of Flagship does not mean that the team will not make any more Zelda games. The employees still work for Capcom, remember?

Re: Capcom Closes down Studio responsible for handheld Zelda

Unforunately, this happens in the business. At least the employees will remain with Capcom, although I don't think Capcom would be considering any new title on the DS anytime soon, as Nintendo EAD is handling Phantom Hourglass. I still have The Minish Cap though, and I'm glad they were alive long enough to give me that gem.

Re: Capcom Closes down Studio responsible for handheld Zelda

Not a huge deal. I liked the Oracle games a lot but Link's Awakening was better, and I don't think that was them. Minish cap was nothing special, I don't really like it. Besides, I think we've seen the last of the true 2d Zeldas, so Capcom probably wouldn't have made more anyway.

Re: Capcom Closes down Studio responsible for handheld Zelda

this sucks!! 3d games are often too easy. They always make a fairy or something to give you thousands of hints. Links awakening and Alttp didn't have that and they are the best zelda games ever. Too bad that probably there will be no more 2d zelda games. Now I'm forced to play tingle's red rupee land

Re: Capcom Closes down Studio responsible for handheld Zelda

They didn´t close it down: Capcom have said that they want to move away from "named teams" such as Clover and now Flagship. They want a single pool of talent and will then assign people to specific development projects, as and when needed; at the moment, people have been employed by one subsidiary company, it then becomes difficult, administration-wise, to bring them onboard another project.

You are aware that ALttP was originally a Super Nintendo game, and neither had any connection to Capcom, right?
