What in Zelda makes us like it so much?
I've been pondering this question. Recently I've realised that not only do I play Zelda games for their overall superb gaming quality, but also for another reason. This wierd feeling I get... Like I'm actually in the game. It almost makes it feel real.
Although TP is my favourite Zelda game, it gave me this feeling a lot. Especially in Castle Town and at the fishing hole and it really made me feel like I was in the game and that I was Link. There is much dissapointment in TP for most fans. What reasons have we gotten this dissapointment for? I find that most of the dissapointment I got from it was the lack of interaction with NPCs - something that was greatly developed in MM. Even though I'm still playing TP and close to finishing my fifth playthrough, I feel like the next Zelda has to come out quick. I need to know what it will be like. I really hope it doesn't stray out of the land of Hyrule, because the Zeldas in Hyrule as important to me for some reason... So what in Zelda makes us like it so much? And what dissapointed us? In detail please.

Re: What in Zelda makes us like it so much?
The realism, the characters...
but quite honestly? The vastness. There's a sense of exploration and discovery in everything you do in a Zelda game, which is only heightened when you get to games set on the Great Sea.

RREARRGH!! GANON KING STOLE ME THREAD!! POUND YOU TO GROUND!
Nah, just kidding. You did still my thread, but it didn't do too swell. Hey, maybe it will be realized again. No hard feelings. Storyline and characters. The personalities of the characters are amazing and the storylines give me a good feeling deep inside.

Re: What in Zelda makes us like it so much?
I guess it is because it is realistic when it comes to Hyrulefield, an open land where you can walk around and do anything.
I feel the same about Zelda games but even more in TP. I just love exploring Hyrulefield like i have some connection to it. The Music (especially the night music) in hyrulefield (in TP) really gave me that feeling, not really sure how to explain it but at one stage i spent like 4-5 hours just walking around hyrulefield, and to be honest i am not exactly sure why either...

Re: What in Zelda makes us like it so much?
The feeling of adventureness. Yes, I enjoy Zelda because I find it challenging, amusing and funny to explore the lands of Hyrule, and I enjoy OoT and TP more because they show us Hyrule in 3D. Why, being a hero with a holy blade is always good, right?

Re: What in Zelda makes us like it so much?
The reason that makes the Zelda series so great is because of the gameplay. The other most important reason would be because of the mood of the game. It isn't overly serious like some of the video games out there; plenty of humor and light-heartedness is woven into the games. In fact, I'd rather my epics be this way- The main plot is serious, but everything in between the serious parts are goofy, funny or weird. Movies like Star Wars or PotC are good examples of this.
In my opinion, people should follow Zelda or GTA's example. I'm not saying that all games should be this way, but I certainly wish that more major action franchises had this humor woven in, and some series that already had humor seem to be losing that aspect. For instance, Final Fantasy used to be this way, but it all seemed to get overly dramatic and serious when the PS2 generation came along.

Re: What in Zelda makes us like it so much?
I guess the epicness, the exploration, and the characters. It all comes together to make such a high-calibre series really. I agree on the humour thing too, Zelda has always been slightly quirky and it just adds that extra layer.
It simply does what it does better than any other game I know out there, for people into their whole fantasy/medieval stuff; it's perfect. The music plays a very important role too for me; the scores they create are timeless and always fit the situation. Plus the storylines always keep me interested, they are good for the imagination. |

Re: What in Zelda makes us like it so much?
What I love about Zelda that attracts me is its style.....dealing with Castles, Swords, Knights, Shields and not to mention the vast creatures that inhabit Hyrule. The game is has a mystery like appearance. The people look like elves and that is another plus for me. Zelda has such a rich storyline in each game.....and I also love the fact that Link is chosen by the gods. Legend of Zelda shows how sacred it is. You feel like your in the game and saving the world and rescueing a cute damsel in distress. Zelda never fails to catch my attention. With no pun intended ....this game series is a Legend in the gaming world

Re: What in Zelda makes us like it so much?
For me, I think it's the real sense of adventure a Zelda game brings along with it, also storylines that hook you in, lots of little extras and evident attention to detail. I am just addicted to the series.

Re: What in Zelda makes us like it so much?
For me it is because it is a captivating world. I mean sure the game play is fun, but its not the best. I am also willing to put up with relativley bad game play (not that I am saying that Zelda's game play is bad) if I like the story line, characters and over all feel of the world in the game.

Re: What in Zelda makes us like it so much?
I'd say it's the huge areas to explore, fun items to use, sweet music to listen to, and incredibly fun battles. Also, I think it is partially due to the fact that Link doesn't say anything (except for "Come on!") which makes me feel that I am the hero, not just watching him.
