ZREO is dead

I'm not sure if this is the right section... if not, sorry mods.

Either way, I just went to visit ZREO (Zelda Reorchestrated). For those of you who don't know, it was a project that was reorchestrating Zelda music, planning to eventually reorchestrate every song. They made their triumphant return at christmas, and I have visited it often since. If you visit the site now you will see the announcement that the project is gone. The web page and music will remain, but we will get nothing new, and it seems they will never reach their goal. There will no doubt be a lot of speculation as to how this happened, but the truth will probably never be known.

Update: The truth is pretty much known after all. It involves plagiarism, a cult trying to take over ZREO, and legal issues I don't understand. I can't hope to explain it here, but it's on the HTLOZ forums for those who want to see the truth.

Update 2: It's back! Rejoice all who like, shrug indifferently all who don't. But whatever happened seems a bit odd...

Re: ZREO is dead

You mean Zelda Reorchestrated?

What? Why?! What went wrong?

EDIT: (from the site)

Quote:
I have some very sad, important news. Due to highly unforeseeable circumstances, the Zelda Reorchestrated project must come to an immediate halt, and subsequent termination. I cannot divulge into the specifics, in fact I will remain silent on them, not to skew facts more than they already are.

The project will end with total dignity. I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the entire Zelda Community, and more specifically, the Z.R.E.O. Community. I would like to that those of you who have stuck by me, week after week, pitfall after pitfall. I would like to thanks members of my team, and I will talk to them in private. Most importantly, I would like to thank everyone who has donated. Know that your donations will not be used in vein.

I plan to leave this website up as a dedication to the project, and all of the contributions made thus far will be used to pay for the hosting, and domain renewals, keeping the page itself active. The Z.R.E.O. Section of the HTLOZ forums will be deleted, and any flaming, spamming, or troll attacking on the HTLOZ forum will result in perm. bans.

The saddest part of this farewell, is that we were less than 16 tracks away from completing the Project’s initial goal, the re orchestration of the Ocarina of Time Soundtrack. Sadly, we will never see its completion.

You will hear many reasons why the projects ultimate demise has come. Believe what you wish. All I can say is, please get the facts right before you accuse anyone, of anything. These are my final words as acting project leader. The project will not continue under any other leader. Goodbye forever to the Zelda Community.

“Nothing lasts…but nothing is lost.”

Final l9er,
~FireGS

Re: ZREO is dead

I just visited HTLOZ II forum...I really don't know the situation or people involved, but apparently there are accusations flying around that one member of the team stole from the work of other artists.

Yeah, I find it odd that the announcement specifically said there will be accusations. That pretty means there is sometone to be accused. I wonder how that could be big enought to end the whol project forever and always. In the end it doesn't really matter though, because the project is done.

That's too bad... I loved that site, but found out about it before Christmas, and when it came back, I was very happy. It will be sorely missed.

Re: ZREO is dead

Man, that bites. I thought some of ZREO's works are overrated (I would have liked to see a bit more variation than it being virtually identical to the originals), but I was really looking forward to the Zelda II songs.

Ah, well. Rest in peace, ZREO. Maybe I'll bug the OCRemix people into orchestrating the Great Palace theme from Zelda II one day.

That really sucks. All (supposedly) because people couldnt co-operate/make their own work. What is the world coming to...

Re: ZREO is dead

I've never been hugely impressed by moth of their work, but it is still good, solid stuff.

It's nice to see that FireGS will be continuing it. He's a cool guy, and pretty good at convincing me to make updates on his behalf, heh.
