Link's earrings..

In Twilight Princess, Link has two earrings, and they are a light bluish color. Now, I noticed that, in OoT and MM (correct me if I'm wrong), Link had also two earrings but they were black. Dunno, did anyone else notice this?

Because I did.

He doesn't have them in MM, and only has the in OOT as an adult. Ruaru probly put them on him but in the manga Impa gives them to him.

Link's earrings in OoT aren't black. They're blue. Just like in TP. Look at OoT's official art and you'll see.

You can also sometimes tell that they're blue in the game, but other times, they look whitish.

But, I'm glad TP Link has those earrings, because I've always loved them. I loved them on OoT Link and I love them just as much on TP Link.

They were black in OoT, though, right?
There a kind of a light sky-blueish color in TP.

Hmm. For some reason, they seemed black in some parts.

Blue earrings, that's pretty abstract.

They did? they looked white in some parts and blue in some parts for me. Maybe it's our TVs' color resolution or whatever.

The manga shows them as a shiekah rite of passage or manhood.

in thegame when you first see him as an adult he has them so maybe Rauru gave them to him.

Or maybe since he traveled through time, his adult form is what he would eventually look like if he did live the seven years he lost. I'm guessing if he did live the seven years, Link may have decided to get his ears pierced or Impa gave him the earrings.

Just what I think. Link looks pretty damn hot with those earrings, though, so I thank him for getting them!

Well, the manga isn't canon. While earrings could be a Sheikah rite of passage (which would easily explain away Zelda's pierced ears while she is in hiding), I don't think the Hero of Time is close enough to Impa or the Sheikah to have gotten them that way. Heck, his major culture shock is the fact he's Hylian, not Kokiri.

Nintendo may have added them to seem "edgy" back in 1998. In the Zelda world, though, any number of things could have occurred. Maybe it's something that's traditional for Hylians of Link's age, making it a kind of "disguise" for the boy Ganondorf originally thought was Kokiri. Maybe it's an older Hylian rite (Rauru, after all, is of the first generation of Sages) that Rauru wants Link to keep alive.

One theory I thought was cool: historically, pirates pierced their ears because the earlobe is an acupuncture point believed to make you able to hear better. Rauru would have been the first to realize Link was the Bearer of the Triforce of Courage; Hylians pride themselves on the fact their ears supposedly allow them to hear the will of the goddesses. All of the Triforce Bearers have pierced ears, but Link is the only one that doesn't have a reason for it. Maybe Rauru pierced them as some sort of superstition to let him hear Farore's will better (not that it would actually do that, but just superstition)?

Maybe the earrings give him some other ability. Link can run forever without getting tired (In OoT), never has to eat or drink, and never has to go to the bathroom. Those are probably the powers of the earrings, and they were probably given to him so that he could make it 7 years in the Temple of Time without dying.

Link never has to do those things in other Zelda games too, so I doubt that's the reason.

Though I think the Temple of Time part is a possibility.

But they could explain why he never talks except in grunts. Maybe they're monk earrings used to prevent talking. But he never talks in other games either.

You'd think Ganondorf would be able to find Link. Link is going around, defeating his servants everywhere. You'd think Ganondorf would have found and killed Link and Sheik before she gave Link Light Arrows and became a threat. There isn't any evidence for this, but the earrings could make Link look like just another person to evil people who would betray him to Ganondorf.

I think the idea that it's something a young Hylian man just does can work; Twilight Princess Link wears them, but Wind Waker Link and Oracles Link don't, as that particular tradition didn't survive the Flood.

His earings in OoT are silver, hence why they at times look black, white and indeed blue.

I remember that scene in the manga - while Link was distracted, Impa randomly spears him in the ears with a seven-inch needle.

Unless you found some wierd camera angle, I have never been able to see Sheiks ears (even on the SSBM trophys). If you mean Zelda, shes a woman, she is a princess, thus she has pieced ears and earings.

SD, if they are silver why do all of the official artwork of OoT Adult Link depict him with blue earrings?

Sheik is Zelda. While Zelda disguised most of her physical attributes, she may not have payed any attention to such a small detail, and she may not have had to, if Sheikah men pierce their ears. We've never seen a Sheikah man in the entire series, so we don't know. And this particular Zelda wears earrings as both a child and an adult, I believe, so we know she has pierced ears.

As... interesting... as this is, anyone got any idea how Adult Link got tights? Or how his tunic still fits?

When I was younger my friend told me Link's earring we're blessed by Zelda and if he took them off or they were taken off by force of somebody else, we would die immediatly. I believed it. Wierd..
