have you ever seen the bird like thing on link's shield? well im sure everyone has, but i was watching the movie A Knights Tale im sure some of you have seen it and i saw this:
![]() look at the guy on the far left. on his shirt it has almost the same looking bird as the one on link's shield. heres his shield: ![]() i dont know if its just a cauncidence, (excuse my spelling), or they did that on purpose because they take place back in mideviel times...what do you think? ![]()

a bird was, as LinkZeldaGanon said, a popular symbol used in the medieval times. The bird usually represented knowledge or enlightenment and skill; a "seer" who comprehends all things. To bear this symbol was a great honor.

Yeah, The Eagle especially was a common and prestegious symbol back in the day. So, that's why Nintendo decided on it.
