Lawn Mowers?... naw....really? Get outta here

I just thought of something. why was the grass all over Hyrule (or Termina) in perfect condition? why didnt it overgrow? why didnt it grow at all?
If you look around Hyrule Field in OoT, the only person trekking it is the running bunny-man. and i dont think he alone has the capacity to take care of all the grass. In fact, i dont think an army has the capacity of doing that, not without lawn mowers of course.

Since no ones taking care of it, the grass should be waist high like in the field near my uncle's house.

and i know from months of experience that grass can grow at an alarming pace when there's rain afoot (cough*songofstorms*cough).
so unless grass imps are coming out of holes in the ground and cutting it, or there are so many horses in Hyrule that their grazing is keeping the grass at a minimum, theres no way it can be that short.

EDIT: has anyone else noticed any small, unrealistic things in ANY games?

post your reply

I'd give this thread a good 2 days before its closed, I think

Grass...? Well, In my opinion...It Was The Under pants Gnomes!!!

J/K. I think its just because I it would be hard to fight monsters in tall grass. It would get in the way, be very annoying. Or maybe Miyamoto just felt like it?

I don't think it ever came up in the developers' minds. I never thought of it. It just seem natural.

Maybe because it would be negative on performance to place thousands of grass models all over the fields imagine all the tris/poligons that would be on screen at one time if every over grown peice of grass that should be in place was placed in the game, thats why a flat suface with a grass texture on it was used instead, this is common in alot of games. Also some areas did have tall grass and few bushes here and there but as it was on the N64 they were probably limited to how much they could use before it slowed down the gameplay.

You mentioned Termina, keep in mind that he was only there for three days. And as for OoT, it hardly rained in Hyrule so most of the grass was probably dying. You should spend the next year carefully watering the grass with the song of storms and see if there is a change. Ther are spots that do grow back though, and Link has to keep chopping them down, it seems like the reappear anytime he leaves.

Have you ever heard of somthing called short grass? There are types of grass that just don't grow very long, such as in the fescue grasslands of southern Alberta.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to fulfill your prophecy a tad bit early. All games have something that makes them unrealistic, there really is no game that is truly lifelike, there will always be something that just doesn't work out logically. We might as well argue that magic lawn mowing fairies show up when we turn the game off to cut the grass, give link some food and time to use the washroom. There really is no logical explenation for alot of things that go on in games and most of the time, those things aren't important.
