How do YOU see Link?
This was a topic at another forum I'm apart of, and I thought it was a cool topic, so why not start it here also? ^_^
Soooo, what are your views on Link as a character? You might see him as a strong, mysterious hero, or maybe a shy, quiet boy who everyone just pushes around, or maybe the silent, arrogant type of hero or maybe even an angry teenage emo! Whatever you think of Link, post it here. I don't really reckon there are any wrong answers, so go for gold *thumbs up*. This is my first topic I have started here, by the way, so I hope you guys enjoy it .

Re: How do YOU see Link?
Well i see link as a sneaky hero, a lone warrior whos skilled in the field of different arts. He lives his own life but is still respectable only on a certin level. Like for example, he could ride past an apple sailsman and shoink an apple, for food. But then when he is called apone he is there to save the day. But he doesnt hang in one spot, a rolling stone looknig for quests as far as he travels untill he becomes retired, then lives deep in some town somewhere so it would be difficut to find him. When a knew hero is in need of his guidance or knowledge, somthin like that anyway.

Re: How do YOU see Link?
I really don't see link as much of a hero, or a great warrior, or anything of the sort.
Link is just a shy boy-teenager, who has been caught up in a series of events that at first glance don't seem to really have anything to do with him. Even after link discovers that he is a hero reborn, he still remains as the quite farm boy he always was. Which is why link is such a great character, he stays true to his roots throughout the adventure.

Re: How do YOU see Link?
I feel that Link is naive at heart in most cases, espesually the young encarnations of him.
He is gifted with courage, and is willing to help anyone in need. This fates him to be the hero of others. He thinks nothing of reward, he is doing what he is asked simply because he is asked to do it. Even in the elder encarnations of Link this remains mostly the same. I speak really, only about Twilight Princess' Link because Ocarina Of Time's adult Link was actually just the same child locked in his own, older body, therefore still retaining that childhood innocence. ANYWAY -- An older encarnation of Link would of course be more experienced in the ways of the world around him, however, he is raised to work hard, and act on his promises with no hope of reward, so in this way, even though he is more mature and most-likely thinks as such, he still has the urge to help and do his job, be he a hero or not ( and he DOESN'T see himself as a hero regardless ), with no regard for his own safety, or any kind of reward once he is finished. |

Re: How do YOU see Link?
I pity Link. He has the blood that makes him a warrior and hero, though not by choice. He is mercilessly thrown into every peril, the sole hope of his homeland, savior of the people of Hyrule and beyond. He never has any say in his destiny, and due to his heritage, ever to bare the title of Hero, he is bound to the prophesy that he and he alone must sacrifice everything, bare every hardship alone, and risk his life in the name of fighting evil.
Link is alone from the start of his life in most cases... when have you ever seen Link's parents? He's either raised by a relative, or otherwise. He's never been taught the life lessons that define a character, but shown the blade of a sword, and expected to do what he has done in all of his lives.* My image of Link is that of a cold, sullen boy/man, who believes his only purpose is to give up his free will to choose what he wants to make of his life and become a warrior, and thus save the land which is in peril. *sniff* *insert reincarnation theory here

Re: How do YOU see Link?
I never have played Oot or MM (Which is extremely sad) so this may affect my decission. I see him as a Hero, but a somewhat clumsy one. Saria I do agree with you a bit on this. Yes I see him as a brave Hero, who's lonely..for love or something. That's what zelda's job is...

Re: How do YOU see Link?
Bowser wowsers, you guys really did go for gold ^_^. Some very clever answers here, people, very interesting to see your views on Link.
I think Link is just a guy who get's caught up in other peoples problems, a little similar to what Vacumgod said. I feel at times that people just push Link into solving their problems for them, and I sorta feel sorry for the guy. But then again, he is a hero *nods*.

Re: How do YOU see Link?
Hm, I see Link-y-kun as a brave Hylian who puts himself infront of others - no matter who they are. He obviously has great morals, but I think he might be a little...dense. *giggle* Maybe I've been viewing WAY too many fan comics...><;;; But, yeah, yay Link.

Re: How do YOU see Link?
I see Link as a shy boy... having to save his land.
He's just too kind, yet so strong . Even though everytime he figures out he needs to be the hero, he still looks inside and knows what he is, weither He's a kokiri, farm boy, normal child or whatever. I don't know... He's just a child at heart. |

Re: How do YOU see Link?
Link seems like a nice, polite and some-what shy boy to me. I think he can be a little cheeky sometimes though, judging from reactions by NPCs at times (I'll drag them up when I remember).
Obviously, he's brave. And caring. And a total sweetie <3 I just described what I think he's personality is, not his situation or anything. I'll post that some other time. ^^ |

Re: How do YOU see Link?
Link I think is under appriciated...(everyone likes Mario..he's kinda ugly) Everyone like Mario, Samus, or someone really random. The Legend of Zelda should have a real novel...with no pictures...XD that'll show Mario!
I like the WW, Four Swords link. The anime style looks good on him. But the really Heroic versions of him are just as good.

Re: How do YOU see Link?
I'm just going to shamelessly advertise my fic here...
Link first enters my story as an adventurer/mercenary/bounty hunter/whatever, and he works alongside his friend Nathan. They merely wander Hyrule, carrying out missions for whoever will pay them. Ganon attacks Hyrule and captures Zelda, ordering his guards to take her back to his lair. Link and Nathan meet Impa, and take the opportunity to intercept Ganon's minions and rescue the Princess. However, they both agree to stay out of the war. One thing leads to another, and Link soon finds himself fighting for Hyrule. I don't believe in fate, so I portrayed Link as being chosen to be the "Hero of Legend" due to the choices he's made throughout his life. Link is reluctant to accept this role at first, but as he seeks the lost Triforce of Wisdom and speaks with the Goddesses themselves, he slowly comes to accept who he really is. However, he still has problems with the emotional price of carrying such a burden, which is where Zelda tend to comes in. For the most part, Link is a determined, mature young man. He knows what's right and wrong, and chooses to fight for what is right, even when Ganon attempts to make him question his values. That didn't come off as cool as I had hoped...

Re: How do YOU see Link?
Link is a gentleman, a traveler, and above all else, a mute. He's brave, outgoing, and loyal. He learns quickly, and can be poficient with any weapon in a short amount of time.

Re: How do YOU see Link?
I think of him as the noble and chivalrous hero that embodies all the traits of the romantic, medieval knight. Except, he's not exactly in knight attire. But of course, I can't imply much from the silent protagonist. But that's the way I see him. He's mysterious. And he must be clever and clairvoyant to go through all his ordeals.

Re: How do YOU see Link?
I see Link as a...well courageous(of course) dude/kid who realized the value of all things around him. He does what he does becauses he realized the consequences of not taking action, and knows that he's the one for the job.
