links voice.

You know what. Its been a long wait and unless I'm mistaken, the only words link has said are grunts and gasps. I think it's time he and every other character gets a voice!

Re: links voice.

TWW Link speaks when you give the command to Medli and Makar. I have no problem with Link having a voice, but a lot of people do. I don't know how to explain that well, so I'll wait for someone else.

Re: links voice.

The problem with giving Link his own voice for most people is that people want to keep and create their own interpretations of him. For those people, the silent protagonist helps them get more immersed with the game and connect with the character. You can even see that in Link's name, which is speculated to have been coming from the "link" with the player.

Re: links voice.

^That's true.

I'm sure that if Link had a horrible, whiny voice a lot of players would probably distance themselves from him. Link's charm is that you interpret him as you like, and I'm pretty sure most people imagine him to be a likeable person. If you gave him a voice, you're pretty much giving him a personality, and if he has the personality of an annoying, love-sick, teenaged brat, he'll probably lose popularity.

However, despite saying that, I'd love Link to have a voice. That's the problem though, I have an idea of what I'd like him to sound like, but I'm sure others wouldn't agree. Then people would get pissy and set the Ninty centres on fire while dressed up in Tingle clothes chanting "Koolah-Limpah".

Re: links voice.

I never really thought about Link not having a voice, or saying any real words. It never really bothered me. but I thought his voice in tWW was really cute, and funny. ^_^

My older sister, on the other hand, thinks that Link sounds hott. :XD

Re: links voice.

I'm one of those who think that Link should never speak. The little gasps and grunts don't bother me, but Link speaking is absolutely out of question to me. In general, I don't like when the characters actually have voices and they speak in any game. But in Zelda, it would be really too much. Because Link hasn't spoken in any game too much even through subtitles, it would be weird for him to speak in actual voice, too.

Re: links voice.

Okay, guys... I was watching Lion King last night, and I got a great idea!

if you've got the movie on video, pop it in and go to the bit where simba talks to his dad's spirit in the clouds. I think Simba's semi-adult voice would match adult Link perfectly! Seriously, just try it.

Re: links voice.

The fact that Link has no proper voice to speak words doesn't bother me, as it'd probably be messed up. And like many have said, it's nice to leave it open so that people can percieve him how they like. ^^

I will now quote myself from a thread long forgotten by time, and such.

No. It's wrong.

Productive, no?....I guess you're right. Look, Link has never once been meant to talk. He is an avatar, he is suppossed to be you as you adventure through the world. Sora, Solid Snake, and so many others, are just players in a story. That's what they are there for, to tell a story (and in the case of MGS, a mind bending one). Zelda is your story. That is what makes the series great. No two person's experiences with Zelda are the same. No two people interperet characters in exactly the same way. I marvel everytime I realize the genius that is the Zelda series. This is what makes Link such a perfect hero.

Face it, you'll never see anything beyond minor character development when it comes to Link, for the simple fact that he is you. If you throw voice acting into the mix, that will undoubtably remove most of the magic from Zelda. That is all.

Re: links voice.

Hmm... I do remember Nintndo Power saying that Chuck Norris gave link a horseback kick on his throat after hearing his voice from the CD-i ... I though for a moment that is was true , but everybody knows that it's not, in accordance to the prophecy.

Yeah! True, I agree. I think Link is better without too much voice... I mean, the grunts and gasps are fine and cool, but too much of Link talking would be actually, kind of weird since I've gotten used to Link the way he is all this time.

Re: links voice.

Actually, Link has a voice actor. All main, even some secondary, cahacters do. They jsut don't speak, it's all gasps, grunts, moans, etc.! Actually the only actual words ever uttered in a Zelda game that I can think of is Ezlo's "WHAT?" when you press select in TMC, Link's "Come on!" when you call to medli or Makar in the Temples in TWW, and Navi's "Hey!" "LOOK!" "LISTEN" and "WATCH OUT!"'s.

Re: links voice.

Link= a "link" to the player controlling Link.

Get it?

Link is you. It's as simple as that, really.
I never thought Link should have a voice. It takes away the charm of Zelda. Sure, we'll never get good character development, but really, who cares?

Ans yeah, Link has said things before, even if all it was "Come on", "Hey" But really, we don't need it, and it would just make more delays

And of course... remember... "Well, EXCUUUUUUSE Me, princess!"

Re: links voice.

I think that Link shouldn't have a voice. I mean i don't think that they will find the perfect voice actor that will suit Link. It may be awesome they do but other than that i'll stick with his grunts and gasps.

Re: links voice.

NOOOOO

They'd make it either to deep of too high!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Also, If link even had subtitles to show what he says, that would set his personality in stone. your supposed to imaging his personality yourself, thus the "Link" between the player and the character.
