Things The Game is Based From

This is a small spammish-like thread, with a very bad title.

Anyway, I just bought a book on mythology and there was a small article on the celtic god of earth, Epona (I'm sure most of you know this), and she was always shown with a horse. So I guess Malon is based off of the god Epona, and then the horse is named after her (sorry, it's not really that descriptive).

Also in the center of the capitol city of the Czech Republic is the Old Town Square, which to me kind of resembles Clock Town (because of the clock tower). And as Hylian Dan stated here, the Stone Tower is kind of based off of the Tower of Babel.

So, I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on anything else in the games that you think are based of things in real life or mythology.

well, I'm pretty sure most of the game came from Celtic legends and such, Like the sword and the stone? You know, Link pulles the master sword out of the pedistle of time, a rock like thing.

yeah that is from the myth of king arthur correct? and..well... for another thing he uses swords unlike most games at that stage that were making their characters have guns.

The technology never really boosted to pre-industrial. For some reason, they made it to the advent of gunpowder, and stayed there.

The stock response would of course be Peter Pan, a boy who dresses in green with a fairy. The Japanese were very inspired by Disney movies, afterall that's was spawned anime, what's to say they didn't slightly inspire the video game makers.

I'm not one of them, but many people believe the Great Sea was based on the flood in the bible, you know, with Noah.

Shigeru Miyamoto tells us that his inspiration for Zelda mostly came from his personal adventures in the hills outside Kyoto. It makes sense.

Most game idea's are hardly extremely original. Most are based off of things from the past. Legends, Mythology, history, etc.

So, In looking at the whole seriese I am sure most of it is actually based on these sort of things. I am no major in it, but I do plan to design games one day and that seems to be the case.

And Peter Pan, according to Wikipedia, is "a mischievous little boy who refuses to grow up." Sounds like Link, who is usually a child - and definitely gets into plenty of trouble.
