Rupees

I've been wondering for awhile, where did they come from? Nintendo made ones that were worth 1,5,10,25,50,100,200, and 500. Excluding 200, the rest are all dollar bills. I don't think that a person made them, why would creatures and other things drop them? Why would they want them? Could they only drop from baddies, meaning if you want money you take a job or go fight stuff? They have been in every Zelda game, everyone including Link has them.

What do you think of Rupees?

Re: Rupees

Well, I think that they decided on "Rupees" very cleverly for the game. But as for why enemies hold them and why they are in the grasses and such, it was created for you to gain money in the game. How else would you be able to earn/find the money to use in the game if it was only found like say in treasure chests and such. They did it for those purposes... Just like you can regain health or magic or even weapons from defeating an enemy. It's just the zelda way I guess, but hey, I have to say it works really well don't ya think?

As already stated, rupees are the currency used throughout the Legend of Zelda series (they have to use something)--which just so happens to be the current Indian currency as well. As for why monsters have them; I have no idea. However, you shouldn't question the mechanics of a game that's entirely fictional.

Re: Rupees

I heard that the kingdom discovered them in grass after a storm, and decided to use them. I'm not sure where I heared that, I think it was a Sheikah Stone... As for why the monsters have them, well, it is proven that moblins are (semi) intellegent, by rumors you may have heard that they have even fallen in love with a hylian or two. For the mindless ones, though, maybe they just like shiny things, like a crow...

I know that it is the currency used throughout the series, and that it is the currency in India. You are right, It can't all be explained. And could Hurricane provide a link to this honey bee thing? I've never heard of this.

Re: Rupees

Maybe, enemies are "payed..."!

Alright, really it's for nintendo can give you money. If Link was in...if it was a story with Link in it the Rupees (Indian Currency) would come from tasks he does, instead. Hylians (or humans, just depends on the game and age you're thinking of) do get money for jobs, like the Blacksmith in the Market or any number of merchants in Hyrule...or even Ingo at the ranch.

HurricaneSpin23 is correct. In one the E3 05' Roundtable videos, a man from Toaru says:

"...You see that huge Toaru bee's nest? I want it bad. You know what Toaru bees make inside their nest, right? Of course you do, you live here. ...You don't? Well, they collect nectar from flowers and turn it into Rupees!"

HERE'S the link to video (click on 'E3 2005 Roundtable (Part 3)').

This is sort of an old video though, and Nintendo may or may not have kept this scene in TP; but I guess we'll find out when TP actually comes out.

right there. at the end link is talking to a man (an least i think its a man), and the man says something about a toaru bees nest. the talk fast, so you might have to pause it to see what they say.

Very good observation. Do you think the bees themselves change it, or do you think that the villagers collect the honey to make it? I would assume it's the bees cause when you break the nest isn't there money there? I don't know, but good observation!

Re: Rupees

ru‧pee  /ruˈpi, ˈrupi/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[roo-pee, roo-pee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun 1. a cupronickel coin and monetary unit of India, Nepal, and Pakistan, equal to 100 paise. Abbreviation: R., Re.
2. a cupronickel coin and monetary unit of Mauritius, the Seychelles, and Sri Lanka, equal to 100 cents.
3. Also called rufiyaa. a coin and monetary unit of the Maldives, equal to 100 laris.
4. a former monetary unit of Bhutan, equal to 100 naye paise.

As for enemies carrying them, Thats unexplainable, Bushes and water however, Is easy, someone with rupees was either wading or swimming there and lost some Cash out of their pockets or wallets. As for buried rupees, think of it like Someone burying it as a Treasure for someone to find, such as the silver rupee by Kakariko village's central tree? A gorotto that can be opened by a BOMB. Thank me later!

Cheers,

SON

Re: Rupees

Repees huh... Hell, wouldn't it be just lovely to go about your business and find Rupees in the grass, puching people you don't like and then get a rupee for it. Man, the magical world of Zelda is that awsome!

No but seriously.

I thik useing Ruppes was a good idea for the Zelda series. I just don't know why they made them look like gem-like crystals/rubies.
