Anybody own any ocarinas? I've got 2. One's tiny (about 3" long) and it splits your ears when you play it(it majically ticks your parents off, too!). It's shaped like link's, but it's got some wierd design on it. The other one is much bigger(the palm of my hand) And it is shaped like a turtle(I LOVE TORTOISES).

Re: OCARINAS
I also had a cheap plastic one. One time, at the Kansas City Renaissaince Festival, I saw a cart selling ocarinas. And quess what some of them had on them? That's right, a Triforce! I thought it was pretty cool, but I didn't have money to buy one. Too bad I haven't been there in maybe two or so years. Ever since they changed locations, I haven't been to it. Once I get my driver's license, I'll start going on my own. I'll even wear a Link costume, just for kicks! Oh, and this is the place where you could get away with carrying around a real sword, so that'd make it even more worth it. Hell, people sometimes carry around axes! Actually, I might work there for a year or two. It's all volunteer work, from what I've heard, and I think it'd look good on just about any job application form.

Re: OCARINAS
I have one of those songbird ocarinas, and I love it to pieces. I've had it for about four years now, and it does have some surface cracks, but hey, what do you expect? I have the bad tendency to hold it too tightly anyways. I know if it ever breaks, I'm buying a new one. Love that thing.
I also have a little necklace one that I bought maybe at a craft fair a long while ago. It makes a really high pitched sound. Gave my friend one too, and we brought both of ours to school and annoyed everyone with its high pitch. Ha! Good times, good times... |

Re: OCARINAS
I have an antique one ^__^
It's from sometime in the 19th century - made in Italy. It's made from terracotta and extremely hard to play I think the main reason I can't do anything with it is because it has 9 holes and I'm not very musically minded, so I've yet to figure out how to play it!! Here's a pic of it ^__^ |

Re: OCARINAS
I have the "traditional" ocarina (OOT shaped) it has about 10 holes, can play just over an octave, I can play quite a few tunes on it, but I haven't learnt sharps and flats properly.
Don't buy the replicas guys, mine was blue, OOT shaped and plastic, for £5, the replicas are about £50, the only advantage they have is ceramic and a Triforce symbol.

Re: OCARINAS
Yeah! I was waiting for a thread like this.
Okay, let me see here. I have three ocarinas: two plastic ones and a stone one. One of the plastic ones is called a Mountain Ocarina. These are the most awesome kind of ocarinas. They rock! They have a website too. To answer Mr. Fish's post, they are completely different. They have way more notes and are easy to play and learn. The ones in the games are just cheap imitations. Hey, PwnageBandit! Did you get your ocarinas in a store in New York? I really would like to know.

Re: OCARINAS
If you get the mass produced plastic ones they are never in tune and simply go out of tune more very quickly. Ceramic ones are often hand made and are properly tuned, they last longer and have a much better sound. Sure you can buy a cheap plastic replica but the high pitched noise will just drive you insane.
Edit: In the next twilight princess *zelda chime* you got the cheap plastic ocarina, use it to induce migranes in your enemies!
