Another Mistranslation?
I was readign the ALttP booklet in The Imprisoning War thread by Master of ALttP and I realized something. In the booklet, (page 3 is I remember correctly) it refers to the makers of the triforce as gods, not goddesses. Is this anotehr mistranslation or what?
Please post thoughts and opinions. And, Master of ALttP, seeing as you are a master of ALttP, coudl you also post your opinions?

Your post count is the same as the number of days in the year, Lunchbox!
![]() But no, I don't think it was a mistranslation. Zelda was still young then, they never got into the details of the creation of the Triforce until OoT, and until they did, they just gave a "the Triforce was made by the gods" thing. It's very possible. Maybe it is a mistranslation... |

Re: Another Mistranslation?
Well, remember, the American manual has a picture of the three goddesses. They were just being general by saying the gods, because technically, a goddess is a god. Sure, they're female, but they're still a god. It was even this way in the Japanese manual.

Re: Another Mistranslation?
I'm telling you that manual makes a lot of mistranslation and facts never mentioned before. Like they refer to them as "mythical" gods that descended from a distant Nebula to the world. This right here is telling me they were made by space. So they weren't the first around. wierd.
Also the three titles we never heard of before, "the forger of strength", the "keeper of knowledge", and "the Juror of Courage".

Re: Another Mistranslation?
Not a mistranslation. It's probably just the underdevelopment of the game itself (being only the third game in the series). Anyway, it doesn't really matter because Gods can be used to describe male Gods or the plural form meaning more than one God. Goddesses falls under the catogory of Gods. (Confusing? No really.)
Those terms that you've never heard before are just fancy titles for the goddesses.

Re: Another Mistranslation?
"The Gods" would be referring to all of the dieties in general. OOT never claimed that there were no other dieties in the world besides the three goddesses of the Triforce, only that in the dominant Hylian religion, the world (and the Triforce) was created by Din, Nayru, and Farore.

Re: Another Mistranslation?
The God of Wind could easily be a demi-God if we follow what OoT says.
Gods is often referred to as men and women. It's just the word that you use when you're unsure what gender the Gods are, no different from using the word he or him when discussing people if we're unsure of the gender. It's just the traditional pattern. Also, as TSA said, there's no real gender defining word for God in Japanese, so the translation was probably based upon that fact. That's why The Wind Waker was a hundred, not hundreds, they used an ambiguous word there as well.

Re: Another Mistranslation?
I know I might be debating things a bit, but I do believe there is a seperate word for goddess. I've been reading through the Oot manga, and I remember reading a specific word for godess. In fact there is, I just looked up on babel fish and got 女神 ( woman god) where as god is just 神. Also don't forget the original title of the game in question was Zeruda no densetsu: kamigami no toraiforusu(?) or triforce of the gods. That's it for now, I'm in a library right now, time is running up, if I don't respond to explain myself it is because I can't get to a computer.
