Monsters reanimated

Hey guys, i'd like you to really think back through the Zelda series and look at some of the boss enemies that you've come across. You may notice that some of the enemies from the 3D titles have appeared before in the 8 bit and 16 bit titles. To name but a few:

- Wart (MM - Miniboss of Great Bay Temple) - first appeared as Arrghus (ALTTP - Boss of Swamp Palace)

- Twinmold (MM - Boss of Stone Tower Temple) - first appeared as Lanmola (ALTTP - Boss of Desert Palace)

Others are obvious, like Shadow Link (who was a major antogonist in FSA, and appeared as the Miniboss Dark Link in the Water Temple in OOT) and Stalfos (personally, i think he was at his best in OOT)
Some of these enemies were much more challenging in 3D. For example, Arrghus wasn't really that challenging in 2D ALTTP, but as 3D Wart, you had to really work to take off all of his defensive covering and get a chance to damage him.
Others were less challenging in 3D. Twinmold didn't even bother attacking you, so it was easy to stay alive against him. He was just tedious, because unless you had the Giant's Mask, you could only damage him by hitting his face or tail, which took patience. Lots of it.

Some questions for you all:
Would you like to see any past enemies return in a 3D Zelda?
Would you prefer to see newer creations than recycled ideas?
Do you have an idea for a new enemy or boss character?

I'm interested to see what comes up.

Re: Monsters reanimated

Well I Like the Recycled idea enimies, But it would be Much Better if they made New monsters because 1) it creates New ways to Challenge the player 2) They are going to run out monsters to remake. So a combination of both would be great.

Re: Monsters reanimated

I would like to see newer creations. There should be more mini-bosses and the side-quests should have bosses as well. A remake of an enemy as a boss would be cool too. If you had an Iron Knucked and greatly increased its size You'd have a challenging boss. It would also have to take more than swinging your sword to kill it. There would be a giant spiral stair-case to climg up and take out sections at a time. The knuckle would also have many different moves. If a bomb was thrown at it from the front, it would react and throw it back at you. Its, axe would be very deadly as well. Finally, it'd be like one of those eggs where smaller eggs pop out of it. The more armor you destroy, the smaller it gets. At the end of the fight, there should be an ambush of ten Iron Knuckles coming through doors around the spiral arena. Once you beat them, you'd get an incredible armor whick, when hit, deflects a small amount of damaage back on the attacker.

Re: Monsters reanimated

I think the most re-used boss is Gohma, she mostly appears as a boss, but a couple of times, appears as just an enemy.

True, True. Now that I think of it, all of Young Link's boss enemies in OOT are recycled. Gohma and Dodongo both appeared in LOZ, and Barinade is actually based on Arrghus from ALTTP, in that it used other monsters as a shield and as a weapon. Adult Link's boss enemies are all original as far I know (except Ganondorf - who was based on Agahnim of ALTTP - and Ganon)

What about Oracle of seasons. All the bosses, apart from Medusa Head, were from the original LoZ.

Re: Monsters reanimated

I'd like to see Trinexx and Helmasaur King - both of ALttP - make another appearance. In 3D. They're just too awesome to forget about.

Also, LoZ's Gleeok would be a welcome addition to the 3D boss list. Volvagia's rubbish; we need a real dragon.

You are almost right - Aquamentus, Dodongo, Manhandla, Gleeok, Gohma and Digdogger were all bosses in LOZ. In OOS, they've been revamped with new attacks and different methods to defeat them. Brilliant!
However, aside from Ganon, these were the only boss enemies in LOZ, just six of them. Aquamentus and Gleeok were used twice.
In OOS, the only original boss enemy (apart from Onox) is Medelock (this is the name of the "Medusa Head"). The other boss enemy is Mothula, who originally was the boss of Skull Woods in ALTTP.

One enemy i'd like to see make a 3D comeback is Facade, the Nightmare of Face Shrine (LA) and a miniboss in OOS. I think he'd be awesome!

The Hemasaur King did sorta make a 3D appearance as the Helmaroc King in the Wind Waker. Both the same techniques in that you have to destroy a mask that covers their face with a hammer.

This is true. The principal is the same. I personally would have preferred Helmasaur King - he was much more intimidating, much tougher and had some cool attacks. I don't feel that Helmaroc King was challenging enough, but I suppose that a collossal bird is more fitting for The Wind Waker than a massive dinosaur, especially since the bird was Ganondorf's means of finding the Hylian girls over the Great Sea.

Re: Monsters reanimated

Actually, the Helmaroc King was my favourite boss in WW for some reason. I remember when fighting him, you know he does that thing where he swoops in, scrapes his claws along the arena to try and get you, then flys off again? Well when he was doing that, somehow, i don't know how, but i rolled right in between those maasive talons. I had to pause the game and shout WHOAA!!!

Re: Monsters reanimated

I loved the Helmaroc King because you could use some of the scenary to attack him and you could kill him while he was flying outside of the arena.
Also i heard Medelock was the name of the medusa head but i thought that was just made up. Like i heard the Helmasaur King was called Gleeock(or something along those lines) and the Helmaroc king was called Zeeklock. They just sounded a bit iffy.

Re: Monsters reanimated

I really don't want a whole lot of recycled ideas in our games. But, there is one boss I'd like to see...

It was a mini-boss in OoS, the boss I'd like to see. Although I don't know his name, I can describe him. He was a fat little imp that flew around the arena rapidly, then tried to smash into you, breaking the floor. He would definatly be a serious challenge in a 3-D game.

Re: Monsters reanimated

That was in dungeon two of OoA, Red bird demon with wings out of it's ears or something like that. Yeah, that mini-boss was good.

Re: Monsters reanimated

Most of the bosses in WW are copied. For example:

-The boss of the Forbidden Forest was basically Barinade,if you think about. Both of the bosses had things that held them on the celling, and the main weapon you used against them was the Boomerang, also.(Barinade=OoT)

-The boss of the Wind Temple was Volvagaia(sp?). Except for the baby monsters, they were basicially the same. They also both flew around the room. This boss was also in ALttP and MM.(Volvagia=OoT)

-Godan in Tower of the Gods was Bongo-Bongo. You used Bow and Arrows against both. And there was a enviormental hazard in both stages.(Bongo-Bongo=OoT)

-I don't remember what Gohma(the first boss) was copied from, but I know it was something...

-Helmoarc King was copied from Helmasuar King.(Helmasaur King=ALttP)

-Phantom Ganon was copied for WW(Phantom Ganon=OoT)

The poe was not copied from anything...I think.

*Cough Cough* That was called the Anti-Kirby. So it wasn't really Kirby, it was just the opposite of him (Like Wario is to Mario).
