Epona's name origin

While I was looking through some Classical Roman stories for my latin class, I found that the name Epona was the Roman name for a Celtic goddess of horses. Translated, "Epona" means "the great mare".

So, her name means "horse". How creative Nintendo can be sometimes just amazes me.

Re: Epona's name origin

Why would an Eastern company use a Western language to name its characrters? I never thought that Latin was that big in Japan...

Or did localazation give the horse the name Epona when they translated?

Re: Epona's name origin

Ninty just probably thought, "why don't we name Link's horse after a horse god!".

Re: Epona's name origin

Ya, I knew Epona was a Celtic god of Horses and horse cousins such as donkey etc. I came across this when I was studying Ancient Celts in school last year, Once I found out I was amazed. Glad to know this info can be shared through out all Zelda fans.
