How long is one adventure?

I've been thinking, in the past Zelda games, we could beat the game in hours (on the same day) and it would feel as if, that's how long it took Link to complete his quest. I've read some Zelda manga and have noticed there are some day/night sequences. In the 3D games (OoT, MM, tWW, TP) we have been introduced with a day/night system...but is it accurate?

Anywho, I guess the point is this: How long would it take the hero to actually travel (too and fro) from one corner of the land to the next, trying to defeat the ultimate evil? And during this time, don't you think Ganon (or whatever enemy) would have gained enough power?

In the real world, a war can last months, years, even decades. But what about a battle only fought with one outcoming hero? How long does the adventure last? Sure, in OoT, MM, and tWW you could control time to some extent, but could it be determined how to measure the length it took for the hero to succeed in the end?

Re: How long is one adventure?

I've often thought of this myself, and I beleive that it really varies, from a month, to an entire year.

Games like the oracles, MM, and the original zelda would have probably taken a month. I would think that OoT, tWW and Alttp could have possibly taken half to a whole year.

The one zelda game that I would would have taken link a whoile year would have to be AoL.

Re: How long is one adventure?

I personally think that a couple of years is a stretch, but not totally unrealistic. The game isn't meant to be that at any rate. I would think towards one year, but acomplishing that much in a few months seems plausible though. Link might have needed some real dead on direction though to mimimize the quest to that kind of timespan.

Re: How long is one adventure?

Well, if you don't play the game so fast, it can seem longer... And Oot took place over at least 7 years.. took me a year to beat, so it seemed much longer then if you watch it on a speed run, and no the day/night system in games other then Animal Crossing is not accurate, I mean, takes bout a half hour for day to change to night in MM, and I believe that's the longest... I don't think that it changes at all in GB games... cept for special occasions, and seriously, if everyone moves at that speed in their 'real time'... well thats just sad... so it would take waaaaaaaaay longer...

Re: How long is one adventure?

The thing that bugs me is does it really take a full day to get to the castle through the field? That field seems so small to be a day trip... Unless, I have no concept of travelling.

Re: How long is one adventure?

It depends on the Day/Night script Nintendo used. This is an example of the different ways you can change time flow (written in Ruby). Here's the script (not complete- just took out the important parts).

Code:
class Game_Time

attr_accessor :minute_length
attr_accessor :hours
attr_accessor :minutess
attr_accessor :timess

def initialize
@minute_length=2.0 #length of game minute in real seconds
@hour_length= 60.0 #minute in an hour
@day_length=24.0 #hours in a day
@month_length=30.0 #days in a month
@year_length=12.0 #months in a year
@minutes=0 #starting minute count
@timess=Time.now #Real-Time Tweak
@hours=timess.strftime("%H").to_i #Real Hours
@minutess=timess.strftime("%M").to_i #Real Min
end

def get_time
@timess=Time.now #Real-Time Tweak
@hours=timess.strftime("%H").to_i #Real Hours
@minutess=timess.strftime("%M").to_i #Real Min
end
def get_tone
get_time
hour=hours
minutes=minutess + hour*@hour_length
phase_shift=Math::PI*(minutes/(@hour_length*@day_length))
illumination= -100+ 100*Math.sin(phase_shift)
tone=Tone.new(illumination,illumination,illumination,0)
return tone
end

end # of class Game_Time
Notice how easy it is to change the gam's time flow? Is your question answered now? Hope I didn't go too technical...

Re: How long is one adventure?

Hyrule field is small so that it dosen't take hours to get from one place to the next. I think that in reality the field and other places in OoT would be much larger.

Oh and God of Link I think you might have overcomplicated it a bit.

The whole gate thing if you procrastinate at all you cannot make it beacue there is no "speed potion" so therefore it should be posted to more real time would be better

I agree. I wasn't asking for the game skimatics(sp?), I was asking "If the LoZ games were real, how long would it take Link to complete his adventure(s)?". I've also been thinking, imagine if Link had the pegasus boots from the begining (in every single game and used it 24/7) I still think that it would take a while (longer than a month). Plus, we also have to consider some of the "human" aspects (that have been shown in some of the Manga series) such as getting exhausted/tired of walking/fighting, and needing sleep. As a game, Link can fight pretty much forever, but in reality; swinging a sword multiple times, walking/running throughout Hyrule, climing up hills/mountains, just plain ol' commuting from place to place would take days, maybe even weeks. Heck, I could even imagine Link being in a dungeon for a couple of days. Boss battles? I guess they are quite accurate, but (of course) you have to account for exhaustion (but if you're driven by adrenaline rush, you won't have to worry about that until after the battle...or when you can catch a breath).

Re: How long is one adventure?

I'm thinking that a game like windwaker would take about a year and a half in order for link to grow and mature as they mentioned. Also how the great sea was qhite large but still it was only so big. A game like ocorina of time probobly too link not counting the time in the temple of time ....basicly a year. Who knows, I mean majoras mask was about maby thirteen days so that puts something int perspective.

Re: How long is one adventure?

In MM it took only at least 100 days because of the 3 day time limit rush and the help from tatls brother it was quite clear where you had to go and plus link must have had to hurry, get his horse and save the world as quic as possible.In oot it took him propably 8 years 1 to complete his adventures 7 to grow up. In tp they say he grows it could be over 10 years
