What's the deal with the mayors?

There has only been 4 mayors in the zelda series (I think) and all them lack the skills of leadership. What's up with this? The mayor in TMC was lazy and evens admits he does nothing. All he does is think about the stupid masks.
Mayor Dotor (MM) is a wuss and is afraid to make decisions why the guards and the carpenter gives him suggestions. Mayor Ruul (OoS) is so obessed with gasha seeds I don't even think he's aware that he's a mayor
Mayor Plenn is the only helpful mayor in the zelda games. But besides him why are the other mayors like this?

Does it matter? There not important characters, so that is why they are useless.

Sure it matters, a mayor is suppose to have leadership and help out. Most of them lack those traits.

Re: What's the deal with the mayors?

I think thats a joke.

The head of the town in the game is neither important nor has any leadership skills. Its either a joke, or they make it like that to make the main character Link look all the more better.

Who knows though.

I don't that this is important and yes they are all sucky mayors, but I don't think it is worth complaining about it!

Re: What's the deal with the mayors?

I agree. They're all pretty dumb. Obviously Mayor Plenn is the best, but even he doesn't do anything! I think it would be interesting if the mayor actually contributed. I haven't been paying much attention to the Future Zelda board, but isn't it the mayor who tells Link to go off somewhere in TP? I don't know...that's what I heard a long time ago, so I don't know if the story's been changed.

True, but when it comes to most 2D games, most characters are just that...two dimentional (meaning there's not much to say about them), so this should apply to the OoS and tMC mayors. As for OoT and MM's mayors, they were Nintendo's first 3D Zelda games, so I wasn't expecting that much from them (when it comes to character/plot with the townspeople).

(Sorry to direct the attention to TP...since most conversations lead to future games nowadays)

Now when it comes to TP, I think Mayors will have a larger role. It has been said that there is a yearly meeting of Mayors from neighboring towns of Hyrule to meet at the Castle of Hyrule (the mayor of Link's town can't go, so he sends out Link in his stead). I'm sure that Mayors/Kings/Leaders will have larger roles in this game.

Re: What's the deal with the mayors?

A running gag? Political commentary? Inefficent mayors are funny anyways. Their position dosen't seem to be taken too seriously, seeing as Link can just barge into his office. Well, I'd imagine that it'd be tough to reach him. Or I guess, it's just a small town and whatnot. But meh.

Re: What's the deal with the mayors?

If Mayor were to be efficients, then which will be Links role?, because usually are unefficients Mayors that tells Link what to do. Link always need someone to tell him what is he going to do to fullfill his destiny or safe other people's life. So I think that the Mayors role in the game, tell or ask Link to do something they are not capable of doing.

Re: What's the deal with the mayors?

The mayors themselves act as a foil to link, they are usually lethargic ugly sloths that have somehow been given the privelage to run a small city/village, their aweful actions make link look like even more of a hero to the towns people who once expected the lame authority to take action.

According to Nintendo, the Mayor ask Link to represent him in a convention of all Mayors and Royalty of the Country of Hyrule.

I honestly think Link wont make it to the "meeting" based on all the events that apparently are going to happen, before he even prepare himself to go to this "meeting". So I think the Mayors/Kings/Leaders wont make such a role in the game.

Re: What's the deal with the mayors?

let's see..... there are few people let alone in LOZ. link's awakening was on an island, so no mayor was needed. yada yada...... most of the rulers are kings anyways.

i think that the mayors suck at the job cause they realize the people don't cause any trouble anyways, so they don't worry, or they're just dumb

There wasn't a mayor, but there was a king. The king was useless too! He surrendered the instant Ganondorf attacked the castle as if...

Ganondorf: Bwa ha ha! I will now attack the castle!
King from OoT: Eek! Me surrenders! Me surrenders!

The guard in the alley.....I will now shut up.

But basically, yeah, the King (like the mayors) were useless.

He did? I don't remember that. Maybe just a small detail I missed.

Welcome to the wonderful world of side quests. Even if the Mayor was efficent, Link would always have a role to play, namely with the supernatural and magical problems plaguing said setting.
