Exclamation The Legend of Zelda: Showers of Light -- 3D Fan Game

Here is the link to the demo. Unzip the file, unzip the next file, and run the Setup. This two zip file error will be fixed in the next release. The Setup will tell you what to do afterwards. Uninstall and Remove included via Add/Remove Programs list. This demo does NOT have Link it it, or any enemies. Its just a basic LARGE terrain. For now its in windowed mode, no menu or anything. Just a loading screen and a huge terrain. Later on, we will add more features to the .EXE file. Readme file is included. It has all the info. Read the Readme.rtf file before you play the game.

Go to the download page.

Bug Reporter is not in this demo.

The game is still under devolupment, so what you see in here is NOT the full thing. Don't moan or anything if you don't see a feature you wanted to see in the demo.

No MMORPG features in this demo.

---Info---
I'm making a 3D fan game (LoZ: SoL) with Single Player/Multiplayer MMOPRG ability.

New! I am doing more experaments on this game, and I think I can make this an MMORPG/Single Player. How? In the title screen, there will be Single Player, with its own options (ex. save, load, new game), and Multiplayer, with its own options (ex. create character, choose a race). That way, Zelda will be unique in its own way.

MMORPG FEATURES
- Players can have pets or henchmen.
- Merchants buy and sell items.
- Characters can walk, fly or swim around in the Zelda MMORPG world
- Players can buy houses to live in, and to store their items.
- Players can buy a house with a salesman NPC, and set up a shop selling their items, even while they are offline.
- Players to find items, trade items and use items.
- Players can create their own guilds, and send their guild members on quests.
- MMORPG Chat system with typical chat commands and functions
- A robust monster and Non Player Character (NPC) Artificial Intelligence.
+ MUCH MORE! +

Single Player Features
- New weapons.
- Up to 10 dungeons to explore.
- You can name Link, like in 3D Zelda games.
- Anti-Lag scripts automatically takes over if your comp is lagging and decreases/increases FPS rate.
- Link can jump manually or automatically.
- Z-Target (or Shift-Target) has new features, such as looking around with it.
- There will be specially created models by me.
- Link can fly.

Storyline:
Thousands of years ago, when Hyrule was still in it's infancy, there was a war between the races. None of them could agree which land belonged to which race. Much blood was spilled, until the goddesses decided enough was enough. They created a relic known as the Ruby of Peace, and held it high in the Tower of New Beginnings. When the ruby's light cast upon the land peace was restored and the races fell back to whence they came.

For two hundred years the ruby shone in the Tower, making Hyrule a very peaceful land indeed, until a man arose with aspirations of ruling over Hyrule: Ganondorf. He found his way to the Tower, and tryed to destroy the Ruby so that the land would be weakened once more, but suddenly the Ruby shattered into pieces before he could touch it. He was only left with one tiny shard-- embedded in his forehead. (Ouch!) With the Ruby's pieces scattered across Hyrule, the races became unruly again, and sure enough, they began to fight. But before they could begin to war, the land shattered just as the ruby had, and Hyrule became a seires of floating sky-isles. It was now Ganondorf's mission to collect the ruby pieces to restore the land so he could control it, and eventually destroy the ruby just as he had tryed to before, but there was one resistance. Cue Link.

This Link is a re-incarnation of the OOT one, and he starts the game as an adult. He looks pretty much the same as his OOT incarnation, except he has one red eye (its a Ruby shard that reveals itself near the end as a plot twist,)and one blue eye. He lives as a carpenter's apprentice. One day Link gets a letter from the King:

Quote:
Dear whoever it may concern,
This is a summons by royal decree for all Hylian males aged 15-18. You are required to attend a meeting at Hyrule Castle on the fifth day of the third month. There will be severe penalties for all those who do not attend.
- King Harkinian
So anyway, Link goes along to the castle, but is ambushed by monsters when he gets there. He is saved by Zelda who just happened to have been there at the time, and she tells him that he must be the one who Ganondorf is after. She goes on to explain that Ganondorf killed the king, and pretending to be him, sent out those summons. He knew that a Hylian boy would be the re-incarnation of the Hero of Time, and he wanted to kill him early so he wouldn't get in the way. She takes him to the temple of time and asks him to lift the Master sword from the pedistal as a test, to see if he is really the Hero, and he manages easily. Just when he takes it out of the pedistal, though, the sword reacts with the ruby shard within him and starts conflicting with it. This acts as a time limit: now Link must re-unite the ruby pieces before the shard inside his eye kills him, and in turn destroy Hyrule's chance of being saved. Its not all bad though, the sword gives him the power to fly from island to island in the form of wings. So the player goes from dungeon to dungeon trying to get the ruby pieces, while Ganondorf's monsters go after him etc. etc. The game focuses around the fact Link flies and a lot of the puzzles and boss fights involve some level of arial accuracy.

Here is one gif about the sky engine. Note: This is just a gif, so its not like the real thing. This gif only has two frames, so it'll look way too fast and weird. The real thing is gentle and slow. And plus the terrain is not a place you'll see in the game. I just created really quicky for an example. And I didn't use many engines to take a pic to make this gif so I can save time...

There are animals that help you in places and animals that harm you.

Here is an example of fire and shadowing (I'm not good with animations, so its the best fire I can do):

Here is an example of Water/Underwater (these are just slides- not moving animations). Note: The gash in the middle of the slide WW Style Surface is not like that in the game. Here's the pic:

Want to join the team? The GoL (GðÐ-Õƒ-Lîñk) Team consists of scripters that know C++, musicians, photograhers (thats how the gifs were made), game designers modelors and many more. Want to join? PM me and tell me which area you want to join (musicians, scripters .etc). And plus there is no rules you need to follow! Then (if you want) use the support icons anywhere in your sig. In the future, I will need beta testers, but for now I don't need them.

Note: Already have a sig? I can add the gif to your sig, upload it and give you the link for you to just replace your signature with. That way, you can join and keep your sig if its in maximum allowed limit!

Wow. I hate the idea of fighting armed robots in Hyrule, but wow. You sure are putting in a lot of effort, and I respect that. Also, I didn't understand a word you said about the latter status reports. Like, what's a vector and matrix manipulation... thing?

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Showers of Light -- 3D Fan Game

@username180: I know it destroys the Zelda theme, but you might want to see Link in the future... Who knows. It may even be funny.

@I, Link: Just take a moment and study this:

Vectors are easily generated with MATLAB's colon ``:'' notation. For example, the expression 1:5 creates the following row vector.
1 2 3 4 5
You can also create a vector using an increment other than one. For example, 1:2:7 results in the vector
1 3 5 7
The increment may be negative and need not be an integer.

It is very easy to create a table using the colon notation. Experiment with the commands
>> x=(0:pi/4:pi)'; y=cos(x); AA=[x y]
for a demonstration of this technique.

MATLAB permits users to easily manipulate the rows, columns, submatrices and individual elements of a matrix. The subscripts of matrices can be vectors themselves. If x and v are vectors then x(v) is equivalent to the vector [x(v(1)), x(v(2)), tex2html_wrap_inline461 ] . Subscripting a matrix with vectors extracts a submatrix from it. For example, suppose A is an tex2html_wrap_inline483 matrix. A(1:4, 5:8) is the tex2html_wrap_inline485 submatrix extracted from the first 4 rows and last 3 columns of the matrix. When the colon operator is used by itself, it denotes all of the rows or columns of a matrix. Using the result of the table above
>> AA(:,1)
produces the first column of matrix AA.

ans =
0
7.8540e-01
1.5708e+00
2.3562e+00
3.1416e+00

Thats just a small (very small) example of matrix and vector manupilation.

This was used a lot when the WW was created. I hope I have enough math skill to do this. We'll see about that.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Showers of Light -- 3D Fan Game

I think putting robots into games is just an exscues for running out of ideas. Ok for example, has anyone played magic the gathering? (some people say its nerdy but i dont care) its a card game. And the first editions were really good and i liked putting combos togther and working hard on my deck. Then there was this edition called miradon and it was based on artifacts, like robotic warriours. And the cards are so dam good there nearly impossible to beat with an old edition deck. I have worked so hard on my deck and now they just bring this newbie edition out and all the newbs own you and say that you suck and all. I know its a little of topic but its kinda related...

Please exscues me with my hatred on running out of idea robots. But other than that your game sounds alright.

I've seen millions of "fan" game threads. Getting people all hyped about it.
Strange how I have not even see one of those games finished.

"Very easy?" My God, you must be a computer whiz or something, like Jeremy on Code: Lyoko, or something. Holy crap.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Showers of Light -- 3D Fan Game

Your Idea it's admirable, but it reminds me of the CD-i attemp of zelda games. I know it's a fan game, but you're using the name of zelda, which is really emblematic, and that, my friend it's a huge problem for your "innovative" idea.

I recomend you not to do so. Zelda is Zelda, and it should stay that way. No robots, no other main character than Link and it should stay that way.

Anyway I suggest you to make something else and new out of that idea you have, but not mentioning Zelda or either Link.

Those are just suggestions, if you plan to keep following your original idea, it's ok, but trust me that you won't get to much support.

I see what you mean, but I'm not sure what my plot should be... Besides, Zelda getting kidnapped by Gannon is old, and I'm not sure what to do

---

Sorry for the double post, or the posts after this... If all of you hate the idea of futuristic style, then does anyone want to think of another Zeldaish theme?

Code Lyoko and its main characters (Jeremy, Ilena, Odd, Orick and many others) transfer biological data into the digital existance. This can't possibally be true in real life, because not even super computers can calculate and exacute a formuala to transfer (in other words, copy) the data of humans. That would mean your copy (which is your DNA personalities) would be exacuted, and AI (computer) will control your body without you ever being "transfered".

Even if you were able to transfer your atoms into digital bianary calculations (computer), there would still be an error. Study this:

There are three atoms (for example).
Atom A
Atom B
Atom C

If atom A was transferred into the wires/plugs, atom B and C would have to come too. If atom B was transferred, atom C would be left alone, killing the person. A few atoms misplaced can cause serious differances. What is there were trillions of atoms in your body? How are you going to transport that?

You can't. Thats why Quantom Teleportation is never possible. So in that case, what I'm trying to say is Jeremy can't have enough knoledge to create some machine that can safly transport something. If he was real and created a machine like that, I'm not at all smart as him. I'd be way non-smart if you compare me to him if he was real.

3D games are extremly hard to figure out. X, Y and Z cordinates are simple to place, but if you were to actually configure the objects, if would be really difficult (espeacially in Visual Studio 7.0)

I actually don't understand what the X, Y, and Z coordinates are, but I can imagine that it's very hard.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Showers of Light -- 3D Fan Game

@deadhand: X and Y are very easy, but Z you have to imagine how far it should go by looking at the other two cordinates.
@Ljnk: I know its dumb. So someone PLEASE help me fix (or completely replace) this storyline!
