The time when Link needed to use his strength more than his sword.

usually in zelda games, Link relies on his sword and other items to get through dungeons and so forth. But what I want to know is when he used his pure strength to get by, anyone?

precisely. if you haven't noticed, link's a kinda weak guy, hence why his courage is so needed. in OoT, he couldn't even pick up a bomb flower or plants in general until he got a strength increasing bracelet.

Re: The time when Link needed to use his strength more than his sword.

haha yea...the bracelet...how could he get strength from a bracelet anyways? but I guess it's just one of those things that no one can explain...haha...but I have another one...how could he pull blocks when there's nothing to hold on to? oh well...well it also takes strenght to throw the bombs too, but Link also has the Silver and Gold gauntlets so pick up those rocks and stuff.

It's a little thing with two names:
  1. Magic
  2. Zelda logic

Re: The time when Link needed to use his strength more than his sword.

In WW when he had to get into the Earth...or was it the Wind...Temple, he had to lift that big face rock. On Outset, he also had to lift that big face rock to go down through the hole to get the Triforce Chart. The list goes on and on, but either I'm too lazy to list them or I just don't want to...but he was using the power bracelets. Nebula, you're absolutely right. Magic and Zelda logic.

have you noticed how heav the biggoron sword is? I mean, not many people could lift and actually weild it, let alone spin around with it enfused with magic in a spin atack, and it might be pretty hard.

Re: The time when Link needed to use his strength more than his sword.

Zelda's not supposed to be completely rational. If you haven't noticed, Link can surrvive falling from immense heights. And all he does is merely glow red. No broken bones or certain death, just the red low. If they were to implement every physical characteristics of reality-- now I'm just rambling off again, but you get the idea. I don't think there's too much indication that he's weak. But he can push those blocks pretty well(perhaps that is the courtesy of the gauntlets but whatever). A sword needs strength to hold and use properly at any rate. Well, actually I can't speak for myself but I'm sure that's there an amount of logic given into that. But magic works too. It sure does look like he can take a beating too. But again, going back to what I said-- not everything in real life needs to be taken acount into a video game, that being said, with the technical limitations of its time.

Re: The time when Link needed to use his strength more than his sword.

First off, happy 2,500th post to ya, Frosty.

Second, there are a lot of different situations in which Link uses pure strength to get by. No offense, but I believe your question was not very well planned out. As for the lack of logic in Zelda games, well, come one, it's a friggin' vidja (yes, vidja, I'm Hank Hill today) game.

Re: The time when Link needed to use his strength more than his sword.

Even though Link looks quite delicate, he is strong. I guess many of us wouldn't be able to push those heavy blocks, since they're as tall as Link himself. Maybe Link's parents were strong, too? Who knows? B)

Re: The time when Link needed to use his strength more than his sword.

Well...when Link uses his sword he has to move his arm in a vertical, horizontal or diagonal motion. When making contact with an enemy, he either pulls his balde out of the enemy or pushes it further through to try and kill the enemy. When he is pushing the sword through or slashing away he is using muscles or "Strength". In the end, it depends on your definition, sometimes like in the Shadow Temple or in the part where you get the lens of truth in Majora's Mask, there was no need for strength, you just had to have the courage and you needed to beleive. It seemed like a bottomless pit and hell, for all we knew it could have been but to save the world, Link took a gamble and jumped.

So wrong. Link is FAR from being weak. He was a lot stronger than the Kokiri children. Why they couldn't pick up the rocks in front of Mido's house. And besides, he was just a kid when he couldn't pick up bomb flowers. He probably could as an adult with out any problem. And from running around Hyrule all the time, sure he's grown stronger. Physically that is. And he could push those blocks too. And they look heavy. And the fishing. If Link could pull in a 34-35 pound Hylian Loach, then he is quite strong.

How can you tell the weight of it in a video game? For all we know it could be forged of some mystical metal that weighs next to nothing. And as for Link's strength, I think, in OoT and WW at least, Link's strength is about average, but then he buffs up by fighting evil!

It's a video game so link can have alot of streath. If he didn't use it, why make the Gold and Silver gauntlets

Strength...

First of all, it takes strength to use his sword. Second, he uses his strength when he walks all the time. Third, he uses his strength all the time if you think about it.

They do say that the Biggorons sword is heavy in OoT, thats also why link has to use two hands to hold it.
