If Zelda's father was named Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule, wouldn't Zelda's last name be Hyrule?Ughh!Doesn't sound right to me.

Re: I just thought of something...

It sounds odd but its very well plausible from what I see. Monarchs' last names are rarely mentioned as that, because it usually belongs to their family or dynasty. Then house, if you will. I suppose attaching to the country they rule isn't something weird but I don't think I've heard of an instance, for the reasons stated above. It's usually Louis XIV of France, not Louis XIV France but I suppose that could work too. But I've never seen it styled so. Nohansen could be a title though, maybe King? But whatever, their dynastic name applied to their country of rule, or vice versa, is fully tangible from my mindset. I wouldn't think too much of it anyway.

Re: I just thought of something...

I don't think it's a matter of her name sounding right or not, I just think it's odd to have your last name be the land/world your ruling. Sure people can have their last names coincidentaly be the names of other countries (Jack London, Michael Jordan etc.) I think it's a matter of coincidence.

I have no problem with the name Zelda Hyrule, it's her last name, and I'm sure everyone here has just as strange last names.

It sounds odd yes, but if that is how it is, that is how it is. When Nintendo was making this, I don't think they had this in mind...

Re: I just thought of something...

Yeah. I'm not sure they were feeling creative and just slapped that on. They didn't really need a last name or maybe didn't think people would imply anything from the name. It would probably be something to have a definite, less generic one-- it'll stick out, I would think. And maybe people would have a problem with that? Meh. I don't know. That would be something to the effect of renaming Zelda completely to another said princess hcaracter.

Of course Zelda's surname was Hyrule! If her father's surname wasn't hyrule then the land wouldn't be called Hyrule would it ?

Re: I just thought of something...

Zelda last name, I guess it's more like a title, than a last name.
(I don't know how it works in fantasy worlds, like in Hyrule). But royal families, (meaning king, princesses etc.) Don't got a last name. (not in reality, anyway)..

They do. Except it's rarely used in such a manner. Our friend Price William's full name, for example is, William Arthur Philip Louis Mountbatten-Windsor. Windsor is the name of their House, or royal dynasty if you will.

Re: I just thought of something...

i guess that could work out, but it seems strange to have the last name be the same name as the kingdom... where did you get this information from?

Re: I just thought of something...

Getting slightly off-topic here, but if you take the British Royal Family as an example. Apparently, their surname is 'Windsor', though it's rarely mentioned. Windsor isn't the name of the kingdom (though there is a Windsor Castle).

My theory is that the King of Hyrule's name is 'Daphnes Nohansen', and 'Hyrule' is just the name of the kingdom he ruled over. Or 'Nohansen' could be some kind of ancient Hylian word meaning 'ruler of'. Therefore, 'Zelda Nohansen Hyrule' or just simply 'Princess Zelda' - as royal's surnames are rarely mentioned

There's no reason to disprove that the royal name couldn't take the name of the kingdom though. Or vice versa.

It could be akin to the "de" in Louis XVI de France, I suppose. My brain is kind of void of any other examples right now. But yes, it could be very well be a title.

Re: I just thought of something...

It sounds really weird.Hyrule just doesn't match with her last name. Most Characters from nintendo created by nintendo have no last names and sibiling and stuff, such as Bowser and Wario, alas most people think up of rumors that aren't true at my school, such as that Waluigi is Wario's brother(Not Confirmed Yet)and that Bowser Koopa is Bowser's full name. The People at nintendo are just not putting the finishing touches on the design on characters, that ,no offence, other people are smarter and think up of questions that have not been comfirmed and start making up things in their imagination.
