Whatever happened to Ocarina of Time 2D

I don't quite get what happened. Did Nintendo catch them or what?

No, Nintendo did not 'catch' them, as far as I know it never was going to be finished. OoT took Hundreds of people years to make, one guy wasn't going to be able to do it with any speed. On top of that there are already programs available that let you make 2D Zelda games, he, apparently, didn't want to use these though. The end reasult was a project doomed from the start. The guy stopped posting updates quite a while ago, must be close on a year by now, and Nintendo had nothing to do with it.

Yes, OOT did take years for hundreds of people to make. That's because OOT's graphics were 3 Dimensional and quite hard to make. OOT2D has 2D graphics, and everything is easy to draw. I have experience drawing out sprites. It's not that hard compared to N64's graphics. Besides, back then in the N64 age, 3D graphics were harder to make than today's Gamecube graphics, because of the introduction of 3D.

As I guessed, Nintendo does not like anything not copyrighted by them.

Well, I'm actually still working on it... Nintendo did not shut me down... Yahoo shut down my site stating that they were worried about copyright infringrement... but I assure you It's still very much in development...

I've also added Language support with my proprietary .zlp files (Zelda Language Packs). And making a ZeldaMaker using the engine.

Game design takes time, no matter what the graphics quality. It still took years to make tMC, aLttP, LoZ, AoL, any of the 2D Metroids. Let me do some rough math to get my point across.

100 people take 3 years to make a game.
1 person takes 300 years to make a game.
1 person doesn't have to design enemies/story/general gameplay elements, you can get rid of most of that time, say 5 years left.
1 person has to code a new game engine, convert 3D only game elements to 2D, code the entire thing, make sure that the 3D puzzles can be solved in 2D. Add on lots of time. The end result is a game that takes forever to make. I apollogise to the person making OoT 2D, but unless you get permission from Nintendo and get more people working on it I doubt it'll be finished in time.
OoT 2D still stopped updating long before the site was shut down, and it was shut down long before the Nintendo crackdown on games.

Edit: Despite the above post I do rather hope that OoT 2D will work out, it's a neat idea. The one thing that does irk me about it is going against copyright laws, but if that ever gets worked out then I'm definatly a supporter.

Re: Whatever happened to Ocarina of Time 2D

You don't need to appologize to me... and no I was not shutdown. nor have I stopped development.

Oh, if you'd like to see the ZeldaMaker (in development) it's at
http://omnidev.net/ZeldaMaker.zip

Ocarina of Time 2D was being made in GameMaker it's currently being made in C#.net and DirectX 9.0c August Update SDK.

I'm not selling the game, hence, no copyright infringrment.

Looks cool... but I dunno... I think OoT was meant to be 3d...
It would be interesting to play, and create... but I dunno... the though sends chills down my spine...

Working hard on Coding...
click the thumbnail to enlarge

My language pack files are .ini and the flag for the country 7zipped into an archive... each one containing the dialog.ini file for the country of origin (extracted on-demand).

It also includes a Trainer (non-functioning as of yet) that will allow you to edit the save files.

I remember you working on this a while ago, then I remember the site not working. But I'm jumping around knowing that your still hard at work on it, seriously, your work is amazing and I can't wait to see the finished product.

Arrow Ocarina of Time 2D & ZeldaMaker

This is my Link to the Past style remake of Ocarina of Time. Currently being made with C#.net and the DirectX 9.0c August SDK

Old GameMaker demo:Demo3c.zip
Keys:
X = A
Z = B
ENTER = Start
Arrows = Move
R = Full Screen / Windowed

Demo 1 had bombs, arrows, boomerang, and sword

ZeldaMaker is a program I'm making to allow others to make a game in the LTTP style as well... it will be a template of sorts. This is being made in GameMaker 6.1

Music, Sounds, and certain files will be externally encrypted.

Alpha 0.39 demo of ZeldaMaker
ZeldaMaker.zip

Screenshots:

I've also added Language support with my proprietary .zlp files (Zelda Language Packs).
They are .ini files with the flag of the country of origin 7zipped together then extracted on-demand.

And making ZeldaMaker using the engine.

Uh oh. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Based on my experiences on other message boards, and the fiasco this project has caused elsewhere, this could get pretty ugly.

Either way, I'm not here to say this or that. Those screens are nice.
