Ah-carina or Oh-carina?

Which way do you pronounce it? I'm aware that Ah-carina is technically the correct way to pronounce it, but I also know that many people have grown up thinking it's Oh-carina, and it feels weird to them to switch to Ah-carina. So, which way do you prefer to pronounce it?

I've pronounced it both ways, "ah" first, and the latter because I later thought it might be more correct. However, now I just use "ah", and I think it sounds better (and is slightly easier to say).

Well, the way I pronounce it is probably closest to the 'ah', so ah-carina is the way. I've heard people pronounce it as oh-carina, but I don't really like it that way, and to be frank, I think it sounds a bit dumb. Though that's personal preference, so some people probably have it the same way with ah-carina :/

And about getting a poll added, I think it would be better if you contacted one of the moderators of this section, as they may not notice it otherwise.

"Ah"-carina sounds the most natural to me. "Oh"-carina sounds too forced.

I tend to do "Oh"-carina but I don't think it's what's generally seen as correct. I may try to switch over to "Ah"-carina. It doesn't sound as cool to me, though.

I think it's ocarina with an "Ah" pronunciation . . . it just seems a little easier to say, and "Oh" just doesn't sound natural. It's easier to say The Legend of Zelda: "Ah"carina of Time, then The Legend of Zelda: "Oh"carina of Time . . . the "Ah" just rolls off the tongue a little easier. But that's just my opinion. It's like pronouncing Pokemon as Pok-eh-mon or Pok-eee-mon . . . although Pokemon clearly has the little mark above the "E" to tell you it's 'eh' and not 'ee'.

"Ah"-carina. "Oh"-carina makes the instrument sound like it's crafted from oak.

Additionally, I've heard some people pronounce it as Oh-cer-ina. Have no idea how they came up with that, but I guess that's what makes the world go 'round.

When I found out that the majority of people pronounce it "Ah-carina" I literally made a loud, involuntary sound of disgust. "Ugh!"

I've always seen it as "Oh-carina". The letter O doesn't sound like "Ah" in that word. It's just not correct. If it were OCKarina, then sure, but it's not!

I was just thinking about this a couple of weeks ago.

I always pronounce it Ohcarina (like Oakcarina) sounds more mystical to me and just sounds better.

Ahcarina reminds me of Octoroks and Iafter hearing "I'm so hungry I could eat a Octorok" a couple of times. I just think Ohcarina sounds better.

No, it's not. The word "Ocarina" doesn't even derive from Japanese, and even if the Japanese do pronounce it that way, it still doesn't mean anything, because they speak a different dialect.

Here's the official commercial for Ocarina of Time 3D, and they pronounce it with an "ah" sound.

I always say Ah'carina because that's how I said it as a kid. I said everything right as a kid, except Epona. I pronounced that Eh-pwn-ya.

I have always pronounced it "Ah-carina". Then in 2010, when I joined this site, I heard people pronounce it as "Oh-carina", and I still pronounced it "Ah-carina".

I know it's wrong, but I just said Oh-carina from the start. I can't say it the other way naturally unless I'm trying.

As someone who has studied Japanese and knows the proper use of katakana, they would have wrote it A-KA-RI-NA if they wanted it to be pronounced that way. In Katakana, the long A sound is used to simulate many English O sounds. It's not uncommon.

Regardless of the pronunciation of the actual instrument, I still feel that the pronunciation for "OCARINA OF TIME" is "O-Ka-Ri-Na", because that is how the creators of the game intended for it to be pronounced.
