Your biggest pet peeve when teaching someone to play zelda?

Okay, this is so annoying. My friends want to play Zelda, so I get them started on it. My biggest pet peeve is when you tell them to do something and they do the complete opposite.

example:
Me: Go to the red building
Friend: Okay. (Heads over to the exit of Kokiri Forest
Me: I said the RED BUILDING!
Friend: Oh...

What's ur big pet peeve when teach your friend how to play zelda? If you do...

EDIT:
Me: NO YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR SLINGSHOT!
friend: okay...
Me: SHE'S ON THE GROUND USE YOUR SWORD!
friend: oh...
Me: WHAT ARE YOU DOING, THAT"S A DEKU STICK!
friend: Will you SHUT UP!
Me: .......
friend: (Link dies) Can you do it for me.

Re: Your biggest pet peeve when teaching someone to play zelda?

my biggest pet peeve is not teaching them but seeing them play in general. last year, i was seeing how my 13 year old cousin played and it was just terrible. now he is not entirely lost on his own, and i would only tell him where to go after 10 minutes of him wandering around aimlessly, but geez. it seems to me that some people these days are not patient or don't bother thinking when playing these games. (<-my actual pet peeve) the whole 231 puzzle from OoT took him quite a while before he gave up and had me do it. and ILJJB was a just bad, falling into those holes all the time only having to climb back up.

despite that, he got the hang of the game by the time he got to the fire temple and did the water temple on his own!

Trying to teach them how to figure things out on their own. Only to have them ask me over and over what to do next. So much so that it seems more that I'm the one playing and not the other way around.

That's exactly what happens to me as well! Besides the fact that I'm yelling at them to do something, they always ask what to do. I remember telling my friend, "Okay, you're on your own now." Until I realized I had the controller in my hand showing them how to swing the sword.

Yeah. My boyfriend doesnt really have problems playing Zelda, but like, ill be all "uhm...what are you doing..." because he'll be all wandering around or getting whooped on by an enemy or not doing a puzzle quickly or some junk. So im all biting my tongue going "gugh....uhm....pssst....go over there." or "hit it from behind" or some thing like that. I get the same way when i watch LPs or something. Especially when people do that menu ♥♥♥♥ery thing. (where they just...cant decide on an item or weapon and just linger on the menu or continue bring up the menu screen for no reason.)

Re: Your biggest pet peeve when teaching someone to play zelda?

I give suggestions a lot.

Me: "You gotta go over there."
Friend: ">_> okay" *spends 10 minutes cutting grass*
Me: "Does it bother you when I give suggestions or something?"
Friend: "Um...no..." *continues cutting grass for 10 ♥♥♥♥ing minutes*
Me: .___.

Or:

Friend: "UGH THIS IS STUPID I HATE THIS GAME I'M STUCK!"
Me: "Seriously? That part shouldn't be giving you trouble..."
Friend: "WELL IT IS I'M NOT PLAYING THIS GAME ANYMORE."
Me: "Just practice. You'll get it."
Friend: "NO I WON'T I HATE THIS GAME."

I generally dislike watching people at all, because I'm dying for them to just get on with it, but I also know they might want to take their time spending 30 minutes cutting the ♥♥♥♥ing grass.

Re: Your biggest pet peeve when teaching someone to play zelda?

It depends upon whom I'm teaching. If it's my little niece:

Her: "Do it for me!"
Me: "You can do it! Just hold Z, then shoot your slingshot. I can even make it so you can just press Z to target if you'd like that."
Her: "Ok!"
*switches to switch Z-targeting option*
Me: "Ok try again."
Her: "Ugh, it's too hard! Do it for me!"
Me: "You said you wanted to play it! Why am I the only one playing it?"
Her: "Let's play the one where you're a boy in a boat!"

I wasn't teaching this friend to play so much as I was watching and giving occasional advice, but:
*friend dies to Mothula, then performs a certain action*
"Dude, did you really just save state to through a Zelda dungeon? Cheater!"

The second one would be my biggest peeve. In my day, when we had to go through 30 rooms in the snow -- BOTH WAYS-- just to get back to Mothula!

Re: Your biggest pet peeve when teaching someone to play zelda?

Basically when you help them out, give THEM control, then 10 seconds later "I need help" or "beat the game for me". Also when they have zero patience. My friend is absolutely terrible at all videogames in general (even pokemon), and he got me annoyed to the point when I simply ordered him to get an online walkthrough on ZD or ZU.

---------- Post added at 08:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:14 PM ----------

The other thing that gets on my nerves is that no one ever taught me. I almost never had to get a friend to help me with anything, and I was a natural. So that makes it worse for me.

One of the biggest pet peeves for me was when my little sister asked how to make Link jump - as in a Mario jump with the A button.

I don't know, but he was going in circles and I just gave up. That's why I like LPs better, you don't have to deal with that directly.

Re: Your biggest pet peeve when teaching someone to play zelda?

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who has problems watching other people play the game. Well one of mine is when they never listen to what you say, but another one that gets on my nerves is when they are playing one of the best parts of the game, and they hate it. For example: I was helping my brother play TP, and he got stuck in the spinner room in arbiters grounds(hopefully you all know what I'm talking about). He got stuck at the very beginning, and then ended up hating one of the funnest parts of the game, and I had to do it for him.

I got mentored through OoT, I never played it considering I had the game from day 1, I watched someone play it from time to time and one I completed it on my own, I mentored my nextdoor neighbor through it and have mentored about 12-13 people through OoT alone, don't get me started on TP or TWW

Re: Your biggest pet peeve when teaching someone to play zelda?

My dad was playing OoT years ago, and I always got enraged at his lack of observational skills. He'd be looking for something and go into first-person mode, I'd say "look right", for instance, and he'd turn his view way past where the object was. It also seemed like he only paid attention to stuff in the center of the screen. Of course, he sucks at games, period.

My little sister always had me beat dungeon bosses in OoT for her, because they made her panic so much that she couldn't stay coordinated when fighting them. "Please beat Gohma for me, Brother!" Ugh. But she finally did it by herself recently, and she's done several other dungeons in their entirety, too. Could be using the guide, but I don't blame her for that. I used guides for LA, OoT, and MM, but stopped using them after that.

Re: Your biggest pet peeve when teaching someone to play zelda?

I simply don't teach people how to play. If they can't figure it out by themselves, then the game is either too complicated to begin with or it's just not for them.
If I watch someone play and they ask for my advice, I always ask if they're really sure that they want it, since it's usually more rewarding to find things out by yourself.

Re: Your biggest pet peeve when teaching someone to play zelda?

I guess this applies to any RPG-ish game, but my biggest pet peeve when it comes to teaching someone how to play Zelda is when the "student" refuses to take a bit more time to read through dialogue that tells them where he or she needs to go or what he or she needs to do next and then he or she tells me that he or she does not know where to go or what to do next. People: read the dag nab dialogue! *kicks desk in frustration* *rubs toes*
