I was thinking: How old is the "average" Zelda fan? ... Since when are you a true fan?? ... Which game made that happen???... Was it the first one you played????
I am 25, as old as the Zelda series, and I became a fan with ALTTP around 1997, actually not so long before OOT (my favorite so far) came out, a game which I expected and wanted so much since the fist time I've ever heard of it!
I'm 17, my first Zelda game was the oringinal back in 95. I was shocked when I found that Link and Mario, and Pokemon were made by the same company in 1999. Since then, I've played, owned and beaten all non-cdi Zelda games.
I was flamed by like, everyone, for suggesting that Majora's Mask was better than Ocarina of Time in 2006.
I've been a Zelda fan ever since I was about 4-5 years old, and I'm 17 years old now. I've played so many of the older Zelda games many times I forgot which one I played; either Legend of Zelda or Ocarina of Time.
I'm 20 and have been playing since ALttP, which was given to us by one of my grandmas. She loved Zelda too. She also gave us OoT. I'm not sure which I played first though. Probably ALttP, since the grandma gave us her SNES first, then her N64.
My first Zelda game was ALttP, but I didn't consider myself a fan until I played OoT, since I only played it a little
It might be relevant to point out that I got really late to the party, I think TWW was about to be released by the time I started playing OoT, wich was the first one I actually finished, still, I was well aware of the existence of Zelda games, mostly thanks to Smash Bros, where I mained Link since before I became a fan.
Then I went around by playing the older games on emulators and whatnot, and a few ones on my GBA, OoS and ALttP/FS to be exact, and when I got my Gamecube late in 2005, TWW was one of my first games, but I had already beaten around half of the games in the franchise by then.
By the time TP came out, I had at least played every game.
TL;DR, I'm 19, became a fan with a game older than TWW, but on TWW times.
"Yeah my name is Link, man, I'm more well known than Lil Wayne. Oh you thought my name was Zelda? THAT'S A ♥♥♥♥♥♥ING GIRL'S NAME! I've saved the world like fifteen times and saved the princess from demise. And I do it all alone, with no help and no advice." ~ Zelda Rap
This is the first age poll I've ever taken where I was in the "over" category. I became a fan because of a shiny gold cartridge I stumbled upon in a garage sale. Been a fan ever since I realized you could get a sword from the old man in the cave.
My first game was OoT. It was back one Christmas morning, and it was a gift to my brother. It was one of my first video games I can recall, and all of us were blown away by the graphics. I thought it was a 2 player and kept trying to play, but it wouldn't let me lol. I also remember fighting with my brother because I wanted to use the purple controller, and the only other one was gray. Lol, good times.
For the next few years, I played and played that game. At first I didn't know what I was doing hardly and it was slow going trying to beat it. (I must have spent one entire year on the water temple alone, lol) And then one day I finally did it. I beat that game into the fricking ground. And it was the best feeling ever.
Then I went on to play ALttP, though I still haven't beaten it yet because I hardly play it. And then on one of my Birthday's I got MM (which is my favorite). And then I played TP, LoZ, AoL, and PH. Just lately I've started LA. I've been a fan since three years old, and I'll be be there to buy SS the second it comes out.
So there's my whole life right there.

I'm 15, and have been a Zelda fan since I was born. My dad was a huge fan of the series, and I used to watch him play all the time. I used to read the guidebooks to him and help with puzzles. Now, I'm a bigger fan and play almost everyday. Zelda is one of the biggest parts of my childhood. My first game (to see) was OoT, ever since I can remember. First game to play, aLttP. First to beat? Twilight Princess.
And, ALttP wasn't the first Zelda franchise game to come out. Legend of Zelda was.
Been a fan since OoT (late 1999/ early 2000)
I rented the game for a week on a whim and did't know much about it as I was the only one I knew with an N64 (everyone else had a playstation or PC for games). I got home and played it for about 3 hours switched it off and decided I'd return the game the next day. I walked back into town and took the game back then walked to the games store to buy my own copy! The game was too good that I had to get my own copy after one day. I was also one of the first in line for majora's mask when it came out, been a hardcore fan ever since

My first game was OoT in 1998... I was 4 years old when it came out and I was in preschool. I remember my brothers playing it a lot and when they reached the point Link turned adult, and there were ReDeads, I was thinking... OMG this game is scary!!!! D: and I was scared to go to sleep that night after seeing a ReDead for the first time. I remember when i played OoT I was scared of walking on Hyrule Field at night because of the Stalkids haha. So I always hung out in the ranch with the horses. or swam in the Zora river.
Then came Majora's Mask in 2000 when I was 6 and in first grade... my brother got it for his Christmas/birthday (he was born on Christmas day lol) and I thought the game was soooo cool for a Zelda game I would beg to play it. I remember before it came out I thought the art of the game (I saw it in a magazine or game guide, can't remember which) was awesome... I remember when I saw the moon for the first time I was like WOAH!!! That looks cool!!! Then when my brother finally got the game I thought Deku, Zora, and Goron Link were awesome
Okay I'm rambling about childhood again haha. Anyways yes been a fan since OoT, I just turned 17 a few days ago, so yeah!

I started with Ocarina of Time on the Christmas of 1998, when I was 8 years old. And actually, part of the reason I grew attached to the series was because it always seemed like Link was growing up alongside me. Recent interviews concerning Ocarina of Time 3D, for example, specify that Link was 9 in that game--very nearly the same age I was. When Majora's Mask saw release, I was exactly the same age as Link. Further, I was 12 when Wind Waker rolled around--same age as Link, according to some pre-release information--and I was 16 when Twilight Princess came out, which saw our ages match fairly once again. I feel so very fortunate that I did come to the series at that age, and at that time.
I'm actually rather crestfallen that, from here on in, I'm only going to keep getting older while Link remains forever young. It's a little matter, and perhaps a trivial one, but I do contemplate these sorts of things every once in a while.
